One of the most underrated bands of the 90s. I believe they only came out with 3 albums back in the day until they just released a new one a couple years ago. This album in particular is one of my favorites of all time. It has a strange ability to both be played while falling asleep or waking up. I used to have it as my wake up alarm. Chino has stated that Hum was one of Deftones main influences, this album specifically.

Hum, Failure, and Shiner are all criminally underrated bands that are luckily still making music. I've seen them all live multiple times and they are also some of the best live acts I've ever heard! Just unreal walls of sound, and surgical precision while playing. Sadly, Hum's drummer Bryan died recently, but I'm hoping they'll find a way to tour at least one more time.

HUM is one of the best bands of the '90's, that not enough people have heard of. This is the song that started my love affair with this band, so many years ago. The bridge riff is just killer! So much fun to play. The dynamic changes in a lot of their songs, make them so interesting to me. From the sublime, to the bombastic. I was fortunate enough to see them live a couple of times. F'n A right! Hum are underappreciated/recognized and a band fuller of depth musically than is evident at first glance which, besides the time that they'd dropped 'You'd Prefer..." and neverminding the time of their first & second outings and the bands who were really getting noticed and/or blowing up that most know from the period by name, (which I won't name, as you can definitely guess a handful of 'em) most likely had contributed to them being unluckily slept-on.

This is a real catchy song, but Hum really hit their stride with the follow-up album to this one, Downward is Heavenward. That's a stone-cold classic of the 90s, kind of lost to time, with the same sonic richness but even better compositionally. They also reunited recently and put out another album that's even more varied and compelling while keeping the Hum sound. Very cool band.

Geebz is also my musical doppelgänger. I have opened up old songs to learn on guitar quite a few times only to see Geebie post a reaction randomly the next day. So awesome when the “stars” align!!

When I saw this I knew you'd dig it. Hum is one of my favorite 90s bands. Pretty much everything they've done you'll like. This one really takes me back to my youth ... cruising around with my girlfriend in a '63 Corvair with this CD playing. Good times. I miss that car (don't miss the girl though, she was psycho).

Alright.... SO apparently today was my day..... HUM and Smashing Pumpkins in the same day for reactions. This Album is legendary. then they had a follow up which was good Then split up for almost 20 years in 2020 they reunited and released an awesome album "Inlet" and sadly the Drummer passed as they were preparing to tour.. Freaking awesome

Heck yes! My band use to cover this in 04-05. Those who didn't know it, thought it was the best song we'd written. Those that knew it were super stoked and always asked us to play it. We weren't around long, but I feared of becoming one of those bands that were known just for a cover and started to refuse to play it.

the vocals and acoustic in the beginning remind me a bit of early midwest emo / 2000s alternative. very ahead of its time. the loud guitar parts definitely sound like Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream. great underrated music that's finally getting some recognition. they were a big influence on Deftones apparently

Over time, these guys have become my favorite band. This album was a milestone of my teenage years and it just never really left my orbit. The follow-up, "Downward is Heavenward" is decent but the newest one, Inlet, released in 2020 after a 22 year hiatus, is a flawless masterpiece of an album. I HIGHLY recommend the track "Shapeshifter." There's so much going on in that song and no matter how many times I listen to it, I get goosebumps. A perfect, beautiful track.

This is why a combo of a single coil guitar with a humbucker equipped (in this case a les paul and a modded strat) is so good at creating that wall of sound. Take that to the next level with panning completely different guitar sounds panned left and right makes this kind of progression so much more powerful. Smashing Pumpkins did this a lot too, it really expands the sound and makes it feel huge.

On top of being an incredible band across the board (arguably my favorite from that decade) I love that when you look at them they literally look like normal dudes that just play in a band. I love that they don’t feel the need to look a certain way to play the music they play.

The difference in guitars, one of them is an orange amp pushing 10" speakers, the other guitar is through a Peavey amp and through 12" speakers. They sound VERY different, and blend together well. There has been a lot of speculation on what else is going on with them, because there's some interesting things going on with them. It's a masterclass is tone layering.
