Wife dragged me to his show just before he died. Didn't know much about him and didn't expect too much. it was one of the funniest comedy shows I've ever seen. And what a nice guy. After the show he was going to the crowd talking to people and I put my hand out to shake his and he turned away to someone else so I sat down. Next thing I know he taps me on the shoulder and says "I saw you, brother" and gives me a big hearty handshake. Left us far too soon.

One of the coolest things Patrice would do is he didn't seem like he was ever trying to rush the joke. You might think he's in an awkward silence, and then boom punchline. He let his jokes breathe

Some call it not getting a chance, but I'd say he just never sold out. He just was around at a time when if you didn't sell out even a lil, you were screwed. He died too early because if he were around when podcasts started blowing up, there is zero doubt he would be as huge as his friends Kevin Hart and Bill Burr are now, it just wasn't his time and life is unfair, it takes some people way too early.

I think he was funny but he's very overrated. That's not true about how a 'white' man and 'black' man reacts to an ass. Both of those impressions he did are done by either race. Your bit there about talking about toxic masculinity being cool was funnier than what he said here. Someone else might have actually stood in a certain way which made them look slimmer but he didn't. I thought he was going to. He set it up then didn't look any smaller/slimmer. He relied on racism again.

@@user-yp3oj5se1i I don’t think he’s overrated except for those men who think he’s their savior. The way he stood wasn’t meant to look skinnier. I thought the part where he said your drawers aren’t meant to look better backwards was very funny.

Even when he was doing a different type of material to what he normally did he was brilliant. He's a rare example of a famous person's death where it's genuinely painful to think about the specials we'll never get to see. There's not a lot of good comedians and he was as good as it gets. Judging from the original airdate (1997), there is nothing surprising about the "cleanness" of this act. At this time, Patrice was in the very early stage of his career trying to find greater fame. As he himself put it: "I was tap dancing like you wouldn't believe". Still, watching this, you can clearly see how a comedic genius would be born in the early 2000s.
