Yeah sola scriptura does not claim to be the only authority. It is the sole INFALLIBLE rule of faith, not the only authority. Claiming that it is the only authority would go against the Bible and therefore wouldn’t hold up. That is why we can still read the Church fathers and look at the Catholic Church through history, because we don’t see everyone as infallible, but as possessing wisdom, intelligence, and other good qualities while also being flawed men as well. We share a history together whether you want to admit it or not. The Church along with the pope have made plenty of errors, but that does not mean that it doesn’t have an apostolic history or that everything it’s ever taught and done is wrong. It just means that by recognizing when it has erred or can’t support a claim that it be willing to adjust course to better focuses its aim towards Christ. Take this for example: the Catholic Church teaches scripture and tradition come from the same deposit of faith and that oral tradition has been infallibly passed down from the apostles, right? Can you tell me which apostle said which oral tradition? Do you know what their words supporting the oral tradition were? So if you don’t know who said it or what was even said, then how is that binding on your soul? Paul admires the Bereans in Acts 7:11 for not just taking him at his word (oral tradition) but for turning through scripture to see if what he (an apostle) said was true. How much more should we hold out churches and leaders responsible? We should be prepared to call out church leaders when their words or actions don’t match with scripture. It’s how Jesus held the Pharisees accountable and it’s how we should too. So with that try and find the name of the apostle or his words that allow for you to venerate images, that say that Mary was bodily assumed, that say that the pope is infallible, that speak of penance as being a sacrament, that allow for the church to mandate that bishops be celibate. I’ve looked for these answers and I’ve asked priests, but I can’t get an answer from anyone.

I don’t think you understood a word he said. How do you get a true meaning of scripture based off of Bible alone, if so many denominations interpret it differently. For instance you go to a Lutheran Church and they believe in baptismal regeneration but the Protestants do not. One Protestant church could interpret the Bible one way yet another believes in it another way. I’ve heard Protestants believe in the rapture but other churches do not, which is completely misleading. The Catholic Church are the founding fathers, read history and have studied early thinkers of the church to see how they interpreted the Bible. You don’t learn anything without history, well the Catholic Church is history.

But how do you know the Bible God's word? What does God Breathed mean? And more importantly, why should I trust what you say? And that's the problem with Sola Scriptura (a tradition of man started by Martian Luther). Give me the bible and 2 people and I'll have 4 different interpretations of one verse. The Bible states that God is not of disorder but of peace and that we should take disputes to the church but how do we do that when there is no physical Church with authority? That's why I stopped being Protestant. I didn't want to follow man made traditions any more but worship the way Jesus taught.

1. The eunuch asked Philip for an explanation. 2. The Council of Jerusalem (Acts 15) didn't appeal to scriptures, instead the clergy decided on a binding teaching on the faithful. 3. Jesus taught his Apostles to resolve issues with the Church. 4. Paul reminds the faithful to hold to written and unwritten tradition. These are three instances that actually happened, showing sola scriptura is false. Sola Scriptura is man-made by a man called Luther who had no authority to modify the scriptures to suit his heresy. Repent.

Agreed and oral tradition was passed down from MEN, followers, apostles WAY BEFORE the Catholic Church compiled the Canon. No one is arguing this, but it's not the SOLE authority from God.
