Patterning Bucks is one of the basic keys to any seasoned hunter's season. I go over the basics in this video of how to understand what a buck is doing in a given day and week so it's easier to target them during the upcoming season.

Great vid and channel! I picked up a piece of land last year and haven't got to do too much with the land itself because the cabin for the rest of the non-hunters in my fam turned out to be a total gut job and is close to being finished. The property is 3.5hrs from home in the NW part of Wisconsin. I managed to get a pretty decent food plot put in and cams on both ends as its an oval-ish type shape. The plot isn't far from cabin at all but it has lot of cover on all edges and the deer have been hitting the plot. I recently got a pic of big buck and he's not a daily visitor but does show up from time to time. There were just random trails through my property before the food plot and I haven't been in the woods since it established. The next time I'm there it'll be bow season. Typically I'd like to set up on a trail or intersection I think a buck frequents but as of now I have no idea where they live or travel through so I'm thinking as a start I'll sit up in a tree just off the edge of the plot since they feel safe with the cover. I can use the day before I sit to look for trails and sign. My question for you is will I disrupt their routine by placing a fake scrape in a trail this late? Do you have a go to knot for securing the stick?

You won't disturb them at all. I've cut the stick for a mock scrape, hung it, and had deer on it in 12 hours. It still had to smell like bar & chain oil and our scent from touching it. I hang them with paracord. I either hang them straight down from an overhead branch or tie another piece of paracord between two trees and then hang it from the middle all depending on what works best.

Hello, question for you. I am on 20 acres in SC. All pines and (a little) natural browse. I have a few young bucks, some does and a 3 1/2 eight-pointer that I see regularly but that's about it. I've cut in 2 half acre food plots, in the process of getting this terrible, acidic soil up to par, have put up a few mock scrapes. My question is, how do deer find good food sources. In other words, how will other deer in the surrounding area eventually find their way to my farm? There's no ag in the area, everyone else just throws out deer corn so my plots are the only thing going in the area. Lol is it deer word of mouth, each one comes in with a plus one??? Any help u have is appreciated!!!

Deer wander a lot more at night so that's when they'll typically find it. They wander further when the habitat they've been calling home deteriorates or gets too crowded. If yours is better than where they came from, you'll start seeing them in the daylight. And that's how you know you're their new home. Good luck with the land. I'd recommend getting some shrubs in there too to compliment the food plots if you have the ability to do so.
