I take issue with the fact that Limited Run currently has hundreds of games and other items in production. They are way in over their head and really need to slow the fuck down. It’s causing so many things to be held back longer than they’ve ever been.

Eh that means theres a bunch of crap around the good stuff (which is accurate), just get the good stuff then, they are devaluing their own brand though by doing that, I'm seeing games not raising in value, where as the older stuff is more expensive

For everyone complaining about the randomly shifting cam, it's a Zoom layout thing, the default is Speaker Grid, so the person who's speaking is the one who appears, Pat just probably forgot to turn it off, that's all.

Pat, the term you were searching for was “slot car set”. Ideal had a 1/64 “Knight Rider” set with K.I.T.T. and a semi truck back when the show was new, and more recently AutoWorld made a set with K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R. in the same scale. I’ve got a ton of 1/32 stuff in boxes, and will likely be setting it up in the new house I’m moving into soon. Somebody finally made a decent AE86 kit in 1/32, so I’m looking forward to building that.

I think a Space Channel 5 movie could work. Ulala isn't a famous character but she has very distinct iconography. If they do it well, it's something fun that could appeal to people that have no idea about the video game. There's potential there.

I had a knight rider big wheel that was DOPE. Also, in that drug deal scene in Lethal Weapon, one of the dealers is Anthony Kiedis’ dad. Pretty awesome.

Sunsoft should really consider making an official repro of Mr. Gimmick, I know there was that transparent green cart that sold out pretty quickly many years ago, but I don't remember that being official. And it would be awesome if Sunsoft could figure out how to get the special sound enhancement to work on an unmodded NES, but that would probably not be possible without an expensive chip they'd have to engineer(maybe not possible at all). I do have a very nice repro of Mr. Gimmick without the sound enhancement, and the music is still amazing, both in sound quality and composition, so I'd still buy an official repro without sound enhancement. Might as well do Ufouria as well, we never got that game and roms I run of it never seem to work properly. And it seems like a fun, pretty advanced game for the NES. Wow, 1 in 5 are breaking controllers, I'm 33 gaming since age 2 and have never broken a controller in rage. And my favorite games are the super hard ones, Ghouls n Ghosts, Castlevania, Cuphead, Super Meat Boy, etc. When I die in one of those games after a really hard part or something, I've never had the urge to break something. I get bummed like "Ahh man, guess I'm doing that all over again", and I'm not a ball of sunshine all the time. I will never understand breaking the controller ever, if a game makes me mad, it makes me want to beat it that much more, not beat the actual game cart or disc lol. Play good games, I think they lead to less controller violence.

Impossible on an unmodded NES, as in like literally impossible because it requires two pins to be soldered together with a resistor on the unused expansion bay.

@@BottomOfTheDumpsterFire Yea, I didn't think it would actually be able to happen, just wishful thinking. Is what you described how that audio mod works? On that repro I bought years ago, I just remembered the main reason I didn't get the special enhanced sound version is because the site said it took a chip from the Return of the Joker NES cartridge to somehow make the Mr. Gimmick cart. If you had an unmodded NES, the standard audio would still play. That is IIRC, this was a lot of years ago. I just love the Mr. Gimmick game.

@@Chicomite Yeah, my NES plays Famicom games with expansion audio and I needed to solder a wire together and then a resistor to bridge the gaps on two expansion pins because for some reason, Nintendo made expansion audio a thing, which would be awesome and save costs, if anyone actually made an adapter like a N163 with 8KB of RAM that gives you extra audio channels.

I don't get why Ian keeps defending Nintendo's strategy in distributing Super Mario 3D Allstars. Manufacturing cartridges for a certain amount of time is one thing, but it doesn't cost them anything to allow people to continue to buy the game digitally. They only did it to try and bolster sales with FOMO. Why else do you think the cutoff date was the end of their fiscal year?

The sad thing is Super Mario 3D All-Stars is still available online digitally, it just isn't available on the eShop. Nintendo just block the server to buy and download it. Kinda strange how Nintendo doesn't want money from it.

48:26 What bothers me about Sony too is a lot of the things in the PS Store aren't playable on contemporary hardware. The PS4 and PS5 won't play a lot of the things still up for sale. Some will only play on a PS3 others on a PS Vita or PS TV. That's why I haven't bought a PS5 yet because they still don't have any plans for a version that compartmentalizes these things.

I had a Knight Rider big wheel when I was a kid, it was a hand-me-down, so most of the Knight Rider-ness had broken off by the time I got to it. We also had the board game, it had Life car pieces in it, that's all I remember about that.

I'm confused by the "short notice" thing. Did they record at an abnormal time on short notice? Or they were forced to record separately on short notice? If so, that sort of answers the question, but raises another. Why are they recording separately? Obviously if they prefer not to say that's totally understandable, could be any number of personal reasons. But did they happen to share why it was that they were recording separately on short notice? (If that is in fact what is meant by "short notice")

I would love for you to take a look at the many videos that show some issues with the LR situation. It’s not really the way you’ve described it here in this video and it’s not really just about the limited nature of games. I can understand however if you need to recuse yourselves, but then again you are commenting on it in this video so that might not be an issue.

There was this comedy bit on a Finnish sketch show back in the 80's about mon and her three sons (played by 40 year old men) having a dinner while dad was away and the two kids hated the dinner because they didn't get to eat from the Knight rider plate. The third one loved it since he got to eat from the Knight rider plate. They had a lot bits about the Knight rider now that I think about it. I don't know if Knight Rider was really big here or I just noticied it but I remember in the shop class back in school we did this thing called a knight rider lights thing. We programmed bunch of led lights to do the Kitt lights thing. I remember they used to show it on tv too back in 00's just like they showed the Planet of the Apes tv show (yes that was a thing!) and David Hassellhof had hes own talk show here the David Hasselhoff show it was weird and neat at the same time I don't know if you can find episodes online but that was a thing. It's in English so yeah.

The GI Joe arcade game rules. Rock n Roll is not in it; it's Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, and Roadblock. Probably thinking about the NES games. I like that game enough to have bought a real pcb to swap into my Sunset Riders cabinet, but that was a hassle to get and get working. It used the same audio chip as Lethal Enforcers, which is covered with surface mounted capacitors that go bad and leak all over the place.

49:45 It not just superficially stronger, it is way stronger. You have to live on both side of the ocean to experience it by itself. The best example is Apple who is going to change the cables used to charge its device... You can thank Europe for it! Governemts are stronger in Europe (taxes are higher). That said, companies still give you a lot of shit to replace, repair or take back an item in Europe, while it is effortless in the US. So nobody is perfect, just a question of strenght and weakness!

I think people were more upset about Super Mario 3D All Stars being removed digitally too because it's just unnecessary. It just seemed odd and Nintendo are already making people nervous decommissioning stores, we don't need Switch content disappearing already.

I've been a big supporter of LRG for years now, but I find myself buying less and less from them. Their CE's are coming with less and less stuff but the prices are going up. The Day of the Tentacle and Doom Eternal ones are pretty pathetic. Now that they've bought out, it's only going to get worse.

I used to buy stuff from LRG semi-frequently, but Josh Fairhurst is one of the most unpleasant and unprofessional individuals I've ever had an encounter with on social media. After I dared to be upset that my $300 Kickstarter pledge for a physical PC version of Shenmue III was reduced to an EGS download-code-in-a-box after that whole EGS/Steam drama, Josh literally lectured me that "if I was a real Shenmue fan like him then I'd be happy just to play it on an N-Gage." Just something absolutely wild to say for a lot of reasons, especially from the guy who runs the "forever physical 🙂" company. After that, I started looking at them with a much more critical eye and learned of multiple instances where LRG literally pulled a bait-and-switch on their customers, where they'd ship them something significantly lesser than what was actually sold (missing or downgraded items), and basically hoped that nobody would throw a big enough fit to draw attention to it. No heads up that the terms of production had changed; no chance to cancel for a refund ahead of time. One of them, amusingly enough, was a physical PC game that got reduced to a download code because not enough people pre-ordered the game to justify an actual print run. And there were incidents related to this where they'd stalk and harass people who dared to speak up about it on Twitter. Borderline Tallarico-tier behavior. My only thought on the Embracer buyout is that maybe some of that money can go into hiring actual customer service personnel, because that company *desperately* needs it.

Extreme anger while playing video games is what competitive gaming is like, this makes sense to me for the xbox one, since you can't cheat on the leaderboards that'd draw more people to the leaderboards and competitive behavior, competitive behavior between men leads to disagreeableness

Digital games should be at most half of physical editions since they require no raw materials, no logistics, can't be loaned, can't be resold and has a limited life span. Despite this, SONY, Nintendo and Microsoft all charge _at least_ the same, many times more, than the physical edition.

Ian your argument is a complete straw man. Nobody’s mad at the principle of games getting printed in limited quantities, they’re mad because games that would otherwise be published by competent companies get held back for sometimes years and then show up with misprints and defects. That is, if anybody gets to buy them at all and they don’t just get hoovered up by employees who flip them on eBay. And god help you if you ever need to go through customer service. That company is borderline corrupt and does not care about game preservation whatsoever. I hope to god the Embracer acquisition does the community a service by either fixing Limited Run or changing their nature entirely and allowing Strictly Limited, Retro-Bit etc to pick up the slack.
