It's funny how Uli is contained and has absolutely nothing to prove, and even when "challenged" he plays simple, but masterful things. He is a true monster guitar player!
@jonhowell50142 жыл бұрын
Yes. You nailed it. At some point the old masters yield to their apprentices, who have become younger masters. Can't wait to see who Paul jams with when he's in his 60s.

Uli is a real gentleman, to step aside, and then to give credit to Paul's great playing. very cool Two of the best.

I disagree that Gilbert is a show off....he just loves playing....his joy is contageous...he is the most modest guy you y could even meet.
@jamesyoung75605 жыл бұрын
He seems to be a really nice guy. I emailed him once to thank him for how funny his old website was, not really expecting a reply I added "in case you actually read this" and then asked what guitar he was using in the "Barks" video magazine clips for United States. He actually took the time to reply and not only tell me what model it was but that he got it on ebay!

@@jamesyoung7560 Dont think hes a show off but maybe a little restraint when working with your mentors No head cutting Its respectful to a guy twice his age IMO All good

Paul Gilbert is one of the most solid human beings I've ever had the pleasure to spend time with. He never has a nasty word to say about anybody and always has time to talk about guitars, surprising! I know!!! As well as other stuff. To hate him is pointless because he would just smile and go on making awesome music and let his axe speak for him! He shreds, He's molodic, he's groove oriented, in short, he's the most well rounded guitarist's I've ever met and watched play up close!! Stop hating
@jonhowell50142 жыл бұрын
I want to comment but I'm finding it hard to pay enough tribute & respect to this performance. One of the top 5 shredders of all time, who started his career many years after this song was written, playing with an old master in such a happy and respectful way. And watching Uli match Paul for a while, then handing off the soloing to a "youngun" almost makes me cry. Uli is a legend, and this proves (as if we needed more proof) that Paul is one too.

Saw Paul Gilbert a few times but the best was at a pub (the Brook) in Southampton, UK which holds about 500 people. As well as being as being a very very cool guitarist, he was also a genuinely nice bloke with humility and respect. I hope he comes back there one day. It's the best venue in the world. (Nils Lofgren also plays there pretty regularly)
@The67flyingV10 жыл бұрын
LOL, yeah Uli could pass as a flower child with that groovy outfit, doesn't take away from his playing ability though, the guy's a Monster, but Michael Schenker is the King and will always be the Maestro.

Paul Gilbert is technically proficient and much more. He is fluent in many different styles of rock guitar playing. His blues phrasing is better than many hard rock players of his generation. He can also sing, arrange, and song-write his ass off. Discussions about historical longevity and whatnot strike me as pointless, because in this cyber-age people can "remember" whatever they want. But the dude is not crap by any stretch of the imagination.

@The67flyingV10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response, i prefer Michael playing the Gibson V's as i do myself, but i have to say Elliott's giving Michael Schenker the freedom to work his idea's in on the build's with the designer's, which makes the guitar build an absolute signature guitar and of course last last few years the dean's are sounding quite exclusive to Michael's tone. Pretty kool when the CEO of Dean guitar's is playing bass for you ( ;
