Colbert was supposed to interview him for 20 minutes, and we ended up sitting there for 55! He just had so many topics he wanted to cover!

The best part is that he is just a great guy. I’ve been a fan since 1964 as a little kid and my dad let me stay up to watch them on Sullivan Because he thought it was a once in a lifetime thing. He compared Yesterday the song to Mozart. I was only 5 but that statement always stuck with me.

in earlier segment w/ mccartney, colbert brings up mccartney losing his mom at 14 yrs old. mccartney says "eventually I found music ... and John" (who lost his mom at 17). colbert has been (heartbreakingly) open about losing his dad and two brothers in a plane crash ... and how much that (per colbert) "messed with" his head. #reasons

Lovely interview, and of course McCartney is a living legend, etc... but I love his current music, from 2001 up until now he has been delivering some amazing albums, and he barely ever play those songs or talk about them. I wish someone would once in a while interview him about the last 15 years of his musical career.

Wings was a weird and fun band too that, as is usually the case, got way too much crap. If they can now drag out stuff like the pina colada song and make it famous from blockbusters, you'd think someone could mention anything but the beatles to this dude in at least one interview.

I took my boyfriend of 2 years to a Wings concert, 4th row... yes, I paid! He got so jealous of my screaming for Paul, and staring at Paul, who I have loved my whole life, that he left the concert and then broke up with me! 😂

I had a crish on him when I was 12! Paul was the "cute" one. John was the "smart" one. George was the "spiritual" one & Ringo was THE drummer! What a time it was!

I had that same crush on Paul and I was only 11. I think of Ringo as the nice but forlorn guy wandering around in the scene from "A Hard Days Night" as the song "This Boy" plays. I later loved all of them in their own quirky and individual ways and we all grew up together, enjoying the amazing songs and transformations along the way.

I was a George fan. But my daughter was raised on Beatle music and l just took her to see him live in San Diego 3rd row center. I wanted her to have the experience of seeing this living legend in the flesh and singing Hey Jude together. It was just awesome beyond belief. 3 solid hours. And he’s 77!

I am deeply humbled and overwhelmed with joy this holiday season and I hope to fill the entire world with light as love as much as possible! I can not imagine a world without her majesty the Queen, or Sir Paul McCartney! I really hope I die before they do because I simply do not want to live in a world that is absent of these precious historic deeply profoundly loved and cherished simply astounding beings. I cried my eyes out thinking about that this holiday!

This was a wonderful little interview, and I'd love to see more like it. Apart from the gray hair, one forgets (or at least I do) how old Paul is, because he still seems cooler and more worldly than pop culture heroes one-third his age. Telling stories about seeing Hendrix play the Beatles latest music with Clapton, Townsend and who knows who else in tow. I cannot imagine... !

Great interview... funny book names at the end BUT (and I'm definitely being a Beatles geek here), Help and All You Need Is Love are Lennon songs :) I saw McCartney a few years ago... brought my 5 year old daughter (who is a Beatles fanatic...the first music she ever heard was Abbey Road start to finish. She was 5 days old. I held her in my arms and sang along with the entire album)..he played for 2.5 hours and was absolutely phenomenal. Many of my greatest memories involve listening to the Beatles either with my dad or my daughters or on my own. I truly enjoyed this interview. Well done Stephen.

What is it about the Fab Four that any time I see them I want to cry of joy? I imagine it’s been the same for a lot of people through generations now. I mean, I was born way past their time together and yet I still see very young people in his concerts singing along the Beatles songs.

''Yesterday'' is so ubiquitous to American Culture, in the 1970's, Mad Magazine published a ''musical'' Star Trek parody, and penned a song that was to be sung to the tune of ''Yesterday''. it was the first pop song I learned after leaving my abusive piano teacher, the Beatles saved a little boy from hating music forever. Thank You Sir Paul, George, John and Ringo.

But it was NOT "Sir Paul" (William) that arrived to America with Fab four, it was the real Paul McCartney. William didn't join Beatles until late 1966 "as an already set up affair".

Worst of all, I'm still considerably younger than him, and he still looks considerably better than me - not fair!

@@pdoylemi Its not that baffling. I would expect most of them, if not all of them, are accidental clicks. Think about all the people with touch screen devices, including phones. I accidentally click things all the time on touch screen devices. Even on mouse controlled computers, people lose track where the cursor is and click randomly. There really needs to be a confirmation before a like or dislike is registered.

One of my top favorite artists. My whole life I wanted to meet him. 4 years ago a friend from NBC flew me in to see him I was front row, and he was only 4ft. Away when he sat at the piano, and I felt he and I sang hey Jude together. Shut up I got the pictures!

There's a face we don't often see with Colbert. Just blown away by the special personal story he got to hear and be part of, shared in the story sharing that is so special with moments like these. Wow. I just adore this show for sharing these things with the rest of us !! Ok, going to dream of such a moment as McCartney laughing at Clapton hiding from Hendrix

people underestimating how extraordinary that Jimi Hendrix story was. Paul, Clapton and townshend just casually hanging out, watching Jimi Hendrix play, on one of the most historical stages in the world, Saville Theatre where the likes of The Beatles, both as a group and individually, Nirvana, Cream, Bee Gee, etc. played. How fucking awesome is that

Guys the place where Jimmy Hendrix bought his first guitar is planed to get torn down and replaced with a development high rise, its the Showbox in Seattle. Look into it to support it so it can be saved

They can't play The Beatles songs w/o paying a huge sum. Same with The Eagles and several other classic artists. They can play a few seconds royalty-free (which John did once or twice).
