@Joeh 1154 Funny you should say that.In the mid 60s I was 10 or so and learning guitar and diggin the music.I had even started a garage band,as kids do.In 67 I listened to Pepper at the wrong speed one day(45rpm).When an LP album is played at a faster speed the bass line becomes the prominent melody..apart from chipmonk vocals. It was at that moment it dawned on me how important the bass guitar was to any band.Anyway,Im still firstly a bass player to this day. There is no doubt that the bass playing on Pepper was a game changer for music,in many ways..even when played at the right speed!

This brings back so many wonderful memories for me. I was definitely a Beatlemaniac. I lovingly created scrapbooks of Beatles pictures, cards, articles etc. I still have (and play) my Beatles albums. And the best - I saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium in August 1966 when I was 15.

In 1964, I was seven years old, having been raised almost exclusively on my mother's opera music (she was a professional singer) and my father's love for American folk music. Dad was just back from a tour as a military advisor in Vietnam, and we watched Ed Sullivan on an old Zenith black and white television. All three of just just sat there with our mouths open unable to understand this amazing sound. I kind of liked it, but I dared not say a word... I waited until 1990 to tell my father that I liked hearing the Beatles that night.

I wish I could hear commentary on the JFK Airport arrival. That is such a remarkable story, The Beatles had no idea the reception was for them! They thought they were arriving at the same time as the President or the Pope. That's Why! they were looking around in stunned amazement as they descended the staircase. Interesting Trivia: Lindbergh was similarly surprised when he landed in Paris, 1927. He thought he was landing in the middle of a circus, he had no idea the Parisians were there to greet HIM! Wonderful Stories.

Very fun interview! I saw Paul at The LA Forum with Wings in the '70s, and again at the Staples Center (from a private box above the stage - thanks to BET) with his "new" band in 2002. I say "new" because I believe he was in another band in the '60s. The high point was near the start of the concert, when my wife leaned out and screamed "Paaaaaaaul!!" "His Sir-ness" looked up and saw us waving down -so he waved back and gave us his trademark thumbs up. Saw a video of the show recently - and there it is!

It never ceases to amaze me when these interviewers don't ask anything about the creative talent that came out of Paul's collaboration with the other Beatles. That spark of genius is so elusive for most of us that when we have one of the most talented people in history sitting there, we must ask how it was made. I guess no talent Dave forgets his place.
