Ringo talks about The Beatles documentary “Get Back” on Disney+, being captivated by Paul McCartney’s genius, a great postcard he once received from Paul, the inspiration to write “Octopus’ Garden,” rooting for the LA Rams, farting causing trouble amongst the band, who the gassiest Beatle was, sharing hotels on the road, finally getting the All-Starr Band back together for 22 dates, and his new book Lifted.

Yes Ringo nearly died quite a few times in his early childhood. It is hard to believe with all the energy he exudes. Even with years of smoking cigarettes and cannabis. Also singing his voice is more clear and smooth than anybody his age out of that music age of the first British music invasion.

Paul McCartney said The Beatles were a "great" band, and they were so. That is because each of them brought different strengths to the band and they executed beautifully. Ringo once said that John played a song to challenge Ringo to play drums like what was heard on the song; Ringo said, "John, you DO realize that is more than one drummer playing, don't you?" John agreed but had confidence Ringo could do it. And Ringo DID do it! Ringo said that was the greatness of The Beatles, they were "always pushing the envelope."

If he's anything like me, that "treasure trove" of memories will be fading fast. Sure, we all remember major events in our lives, but I'm pretty sure I can't recall much of the ordinary stuff. Ringo's experiences as a performer would mostly blur into "ordinary stuff" - any given concert would become very much like the last two dozen he did... and the next two dozen. Remember... this may have been special and fun for us, the audience, but it was work for them. Day after day after day of doing very much the same thing. My parents met here in Liverpool in 1961 and a large portion of there dates back then we're spent at the Cavern dancing and singing away to the local bands. My Dad always said we must have seen the Beatles a hundred times when I ask my Mum she says it was easily 50-60 maybe not a hundred but it was a lot. My Dad was a musician and had many friends who played in other Liverpool bands also performing on the same shows so it was no big deal back then it was just watching the local talent at the hippest place around for a pair of music loving teenagers.

@@Thomas83KO Ringo Starr was left handed and played a right handed kit. This allowed for some of the most unique fills of the 60s and 70s. He was an unconventional drummer that combined aspects of jazz drumming (usage of swings) with rocker drumming. He was able to keep up a tempo with the other three by watching their footwork during their live shows because he couldn’t hear them over all the screaming girls. Listen to his drum work on songs like Come Together, Rain, and Ticket To Ride. He wasn’t flashy, he didn’t like drum solos. He didn’t need any of those to be one of the most unique drummers of the rock genre. Ringo was the beat in the Beatles.

Third, you know he's told those stories for 50 years (e.g., how "Octopus's Garden" was inspired -- "Pete's boat" indeed) but the stories are as fresh as if he just remembered them for the first time in years. BTW, I love that Jimmy is in awe but is a great kidder. It's like they were great friends there. They aren't friends in the normal sense. Ringo and Paul were likely the closest band mates instrumentally because bass and drums have to form a tight bond to be successful. This is possibly one of the most overlooked aspects of the Beatles. Sure their harmonies were terrific and everyone likes to point that out. But listen closely to how in sync the drums and bass are in any one of their songs. And Ringo was an absolute artist on the drum, so much so that it meshed perfectly with the theme of the song and go somewhat unnoticed when compared with the vocals and guitar.

Yeah, we know Paul is a genius. Actually, each in their own way in how they created, collaborated, and produce product is a genius. And each one proved themselves as solo. Frickin amazing.

Ringo played the fills actually...paul laid the main beat

@@DanVassiliou It's not 100% known for sure, but it is likely that Ringo came back and overdubbed the fills for Prudence. And he is good at that sort of thing - think of Come Together or the last verse of Let It Be.

Paul's not the only genius, so was George Martin.

Both Ringo and Paul know how to tell a story. There's an art just in that and these guys have a ton of them. I remember the remaining two Beastie Boys did some shows with them simply telling stories. I really thought it turned out great. Can you imagine if these two did that? It would draw more people than the greatest most popular Broadway show would. I really hope they do something like that while they're still with us. Not to mention I hope they both have many, many years left.

Ringo stopped both drinking and aging in 1988. Also...I think it is pretty awesome that my 7 year old is as big a fan as I am. Peace and Love!
