Paul Parrott Conversation with Ken Frankel of 3 Sigma About the Möbius 1911 Project

We paid a visit to our manufacturing partner 3 Sigma a few weeks back and had a conversation with Ken Frankel. Ken and 3 Sigma is a high-end Aerospace machine shop in Seattle WA and has been a great partner of Vudoo from the beginning. This conversation is mainly centered around the Mobius 1911 project.

I just got mine a few weeks ago. Been running it in a practice and in USPSA. So far I love it, its hands down the best fitting pistol i have ever owned. Need a bit more time with it but I cant imagine i will find to much that I would change. I just might need to pick up a back up.

So basically you build a 2 piece frame, weld it together and have a set of parts and tolerances for those parts. That doesn't really set you apart from other pistols in that price range. The high-end 1911 manufacturers already have a set of specs on the parts they build according to what you said early on in the video. The question is, will it outperform other 1911s in the same price range? If it doesn't outperform similarly priced pistols there really is no advantage to the end user.

I think the big thing is that aerospace and gunsmithing are very far apart in terms of tolerance approach. Gunsmith is usually made oversized then handworked in while aerospace approach is based off first part quality and repeatability. While a high end gun may be more customized it is also not as repeatable from gun to gun based off of the handwork.
