Randall Clarkson I agree. It was one of the first singles released on "Forever Your Girl" and wasn't as popular as the album finally got more airplay a year after it was released, so it is definitely critically underrated. The re-release with the Shep Pettibone remix doesn't do the original version justice.

Funny, but my 30 year old son saw this video for the first time last night and asked when Paula Abdul put this out. I told him the late 80s. His immediate reaction was "I guess everyone wanted to be Janet Jackson back then." I laughed and explained that it was Paula Abdul who choreographed Janet Jackson's video "Nasty" which basically rebooted her career. He was flabbergasted. See, always something to teach these young whippersnappers. 😉

RestlessRick this is probably my favorite song about her even though it’s not the most popular. Paula was a dance instructor and she would create the choreography for a lot of the professional basketball teams dancers. Later on she became an NBA dancer herself. I had no idea she had a heck of a! Voice until she came out with her first song straight up. Hard to believe this was 30 years ago because my daughter is 30 and I was pregnant in my first trimester when straight up came out. Now it’s amazing to look back 30 years to see how our musicians used to wear clothes at one time😂😂 nowadays most musicians where is a little of nothing as possible and the queen bee herself, Beyoncé, looks great and absolutely anything. I knew when Destiny’s Child came out around 1999 or so that Beyoncé had something special.

Yep. You can hear the Black American influence. That's usually who Paula was ever around in her prime. Baby face had to make sure that her music was popular back East too because the bass rhythms had to be heavier otherwise the radio stations back then wouldn't play West coast artists.

Only stupid commenters like the ones who don't understand the life of REAL DANCERS and performing arts professionals would claim that you're wasting your time when in reality this is a multi generational legacy that both you and I combined are proud to be part of! You can't help but dance when this song comes on the 80s radio stations! 💃🏻 They don't make them like this anymore.

How I love and miss the 80's!! These were my teen years🤗I always loved this song♥ This music is very nostalgic for me. It takes me back to carefree yet simpler times👍🏾 sometimes I wish I could go back😞
