funnily enough, Pavement were that band that turned up on time and did there sound checks and were dedicated to their art, conscientious people, yet everyone associates them with slacker! I think that's why they're so good... they practiced sounding trashy!

I made out with Steve Malkmus' aunt at a Pavement show. I saw Pavement at The Abyss just before it closed. The Abyss was a rough place, and Pavement roughed it up back. Choke holds on attempted stage divers and a few boots to the face from the bass player. I think they loved reliving their early days on their second to last tour. The Abyss building still stands.
