+kyle durkee Well the owner did want a rough idea of what the immediate sale price would be. But in the video the "expert" did not mention the going price. By comma in the "expert" I mean that these guys are pretty much on the payroll of the pawn shop because I highly doubt these guys would just come to the shop during business hours for free. So as such most of these guys soften the blow of the price of the item first and then have the pawn shop owner knock it down even further.

1manuscriptman yeah but it never hurts to find out what the shop is offering for the item. Cause once again we have to remember that some people just don't want to deal with the risk and trouble involved with finding the right type of auction for a rare item like this.
@asadb1990
@asadb1990 8 жыл бұрын
1manuscriptman Now I agree with you that with the internet, getting setup with auction houses is much easier. And some stuff is valued best at an auction where collectors are gonna attend and compete with other well off collectors to give a nice return on a product to the owner. But many people who find this kind of stuff cheap from a neighbor, yard sale, inheritance, etc. might not see the true value of the item and don't want to deal with the process involved with selling a quality antique. So people just take what the local pawn shop is offering.

nunchaku101 A replica sword (not intended for combat, intended for show) can go for about $100-$70. To offer someone price of an average prop for an authentic piece of history IS offensive. Maybe YOU don't know much about business. Especially nothing about swords.

Swords are cheap to have made just gotta find a decent blacksmith and swords are not always worth 10s of thousands of dollars usually the ones that are tied to something significant
@erkergul
@erkergul 2 жыл бұрын
@@jac6206 Base cost of a cast sword (Not those lazy swords that they just cut out of sheet metal and then grind) from a good blacksmith is easily 4-5k, and probably 3-4 days of hard work, add to that the 2 to 3, even 4 weeks of handwork required to do those golden engravings and probably the 1k worth of gold and steel used, you have a 10k sword. And i am very sure back in the day, the person who bought it paid way more than 10k. Edit: Even the hilt has super nice decorations with a lions head :D generally anything requiring artisan handwork in expensive, there are many blacksmiths doing cast swords but not many are capable of decorations, you need to pay specialists for a sword decorated such as this one, and the price could pass 10k... Altought im unsure.

Just been doing some research on Hugo Von Winterfeld's family line, he had a son who doesn't appear to of had children and a daughter who passed away in 1951 she had atleast one son who I could find Alexander von Süßkind-Schwendi. Alexander was taken as a POW at some point in the final two years of the war I'm guessing his mother passed her fathers sword down to him and while a POW his home or military office was looted by the American soldiers. Alexander has a metric shit ton of children but I can't seem to trace any family from there on the best bet would seem to be Elisabeth von Süßkind-Schwendi (married surname is von Kockritz) who is a baroness.

Antiques roadshow was the show. The just got the price quote from an expert and could sell as they pleased. But that's not good enough for the scum that breeds nowadays. Everything is money-grubbing and scheming now. That's why humanity will ultimately be a failure.
