One of these sold in 2019 for $1,500. It came from the Tupelo Auto Museum and wasn’t as nice as this one. I believe it sold at the Bonhams Auction. The $1,500 didn’t include the auction fees.

@@nickrodgers8335 lmao I feel like older guys especially ones who are in businesses that are somewhat similar to Ricks always "know a guy". That's literally like their go to line whenever they're trying to say that they need some help with something but WITHOUT actually saying they need help with whatever it is that they're trying to do and accomplish, ya know? Super funny and definitely just like the very classic old man line for whenever they're in any scenarios like this or ones that are at least somewhat similar to this one to at least a certain degree.

Back in the late 70s and 80s, these Sun machines cost between $20-40k to buy brand new. There were different models from basic to super duper which explains the price range. That price isn't adjusted for today, they actually cost that much then. This is coming from someone who bought that exact machine brand new in 1977 and spent that much.

They take up a lot of real estate and every test they do can be done with much smaller tools. But the nostalgia of owning something I haven't used in 30 years would be cool. Man these things could tell you which spark plug was acting up and which coil wire was going bad. I loved those Sun Machines back in the 1980's. If you had low engine vacuum, you checked timing, adjusted the carb, checked for vacuum leaks, or for a clogged exhaust system. With today's cars you have to swap coils and plugs around to see if the engine miss moves to another cylinder. And drive them around for a while. 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

I'm an old school mechanic. Every test this machine will do can also be done with much smaller tools. Just the fact that most guys shop's are always out of enough room makes these machines obsolete. Honestly if you restore older cars (or anything pre-1996 when OBD ports were introduced) I bet this is super handy to have in your shop. Seems well worth the asking price.

I would pay $600 for it and I have multiple oscilloscopes that fir in your hand. I used those when I was a young mechanic and that one looks like it never got used. They could have sold it easy for $600 just for a display in a shop
