I worked on the set and know the truth about many of these stories. They couldn't get a real expert in that new about these items from the Pope within the time we were shooting. When they would shoot they would announce it to the public. And on the days they would shoot huge lines of people would line up with all different sorts of items. It was my job to walk through the line and pick the most interesting or the most valuable items that I could see. Then I separate those people from all the other people because more than likely they will be on the show. I remember pulling her out of the line because she was claiming she had the Pope's slippers. But anyway we couldn't get this guy in in time. So one of the regulars was brought in with all the research he could find on what the Pope's slippers and hat were made out of. But a week later. This woman was asked to come back to the actual pawn shop with the slippers so a real expert could look at them. It was proven that these were in fact slippers made for some Pope. That this style of slipper is only made for Pope's and no one else. The expert was able to date these items to a certain time. And with the date on the cap they were pretty much positive that it was probably in fact the Pope she was saying it was or maybe a small chance that it was the pope before. I guess this lady was later contacted by someone from the Vatican and these items were purchased
