I bought it. The audio sounded like a garbled garbage disposal with regular music compared to my TUF X670. My X670 is beyond overkill for my use case, but the audio is leaps and bounds ahead of this. Since all I do is game and record music, I went back to my overpriced board because it works so much better. Maybe I got a one-off that just leaked thru the QA process, but that was enough for me to go back.

This channel is definitely for newbies but I will say he doesn't steer people in the wrong direction. Most people are brand loyal and not intelligent. When they should only care about the fastest. That's why I currently run a 4090 and 7800x3d. If AMD didn't suck so bad in the graphics market, and could produce the fastest I would go with them as simple as that. Makes me sick.

It’s very important to note that certain motherboards will automatically lower the speed of the top PCIe slot if you plug anything into the 2nd and 3rd slots, which means your GPU will take a performance hit. My particular motherboard (Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master) does this, and lowered the top slot from PCIe 4.0 down to PCIe 3.0 after installing an expansion device into the 2nd PCIe slot.

The MSI Edge B650 WiFi is a better board than the B650 WiFi Tomahawk version (also costs a bit more) & that is what I used on my recent Ryzen 9 7900 12C/24T 1440p build. My late-2019 3700X 1080p build used an MSI B450 Tomahawk motherboard & that PC is still running great today with all the original hardware, so both board options are a good choice really.

It's a great board. The only real difference is the white styling and the addition of PCIE Gen 5 M.2 Support. Personally I like the look of the edge more than the Tomahawk (I know some people love matte black but I personally favor the black/white or black/silver look). And it goes on sale cheaper than the Tomahawk sometimes too.

4:00 I must add that your Motherboard supporting 4 m.2 slots for example, or having support for PCIe Bifurcation are premiums for X series boards, rarely seen on B series boards, that further future proof your system. But you are right, not everyone will keep adding drives when they are running out of storage, and not everyone will buy a PCIe x8 GPU that has slots for 1 or 2 m.2 drives running at PCIe x4.

They are usually legit, part of the reason they're so cheap is that usually you get an OEM key from those sorts of sites. This key will be hardware locked to the computer after you use it, not allowing for it to be transferred down the line (as may be necessary with a big upgrade). Also, less important for most people making their own PCs but OEM keys are backed by the OEM that made/provided them, and not windows, so things like tech support are on them, and windows doesn't have to responsibility for this kind of thing.

Well good job on this video, it’s very good. Awesome content at start about the cryptic board descriptions. But in the mid part I was kinda shocked, that you seem to value boards on their connectors. Don’t forget that you need to see behind the connectors - some of them don’t work in some combos on some boards. Most important is here the compatibility or better to say the layout of some boards can deny full PCI-E x16 if used with m2 in some combinations. That’s the reason why some boards with x670 chipset are so “overpriced”.

AM4 is surprisingly still getting chip releases geting 2 more this year it seems so it's good to keep up to date on the boards available for the platform. For that reason bios flashback is mandatory for any AM4 board. I would also say that if rear IO is important to you maybe check out the B550M AORUS ELITE AX. Personally I got a good deal on a MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK WiFi and still thinking of getting a add on card to slot into the 3.0x1 slot to shift some of my devices closer to the bottom of my case for organization of cables and to free up the better rear IO ports.

Well, Gen 5 PCI-e slot is far from useless if you are going to use next gen GPUs. Nvidia 5000 and AMD 8000 series onwards most likely will use gen 5. That is later this year or 1H of 2025. Also, x670 has a lot more PCI-e lanes. Meaning B650 boards are going to disable connections if some other connections are used. So B650 actually can't use as many m.2 slots as advertised as slots. Also some B650 boards actually disable half of GPU slot. So you are getting 8x GPU if you use that another slot for anything.

About PCIe and m.2 slots, pay close attention to board diagram in the motherboards documentation. On some boards, if you slot a m.2 into the top (sometimes also the fastest) m.2 slot, it will half the bandwidth of the top PCIe slot (often the one with the reinforced PCIe slot intended for a heavy GPU) from x16 to x8 mode, wich can make a slight difference, especially later down the road when more powerful GPUs and things like DirectStorage will want all the bandwidth they can get.

Jason, I've been on the fence here lately. Not sure what your thoughts are on getting into Ryzen 7000 series now, or waiting until their next generation later this year. I would agree on the A series. However, there are several -very- bad B boards. The one thing is, we're starting to see X series in that same price segment (see Asrock X670E Pro, which is now in several places below $200) that said, the most significant benefits of X670E do matter depending on your end use plan. Having a 10Gbe onboard was a virtual requirement for what I was after, as a Quadro is going to take up slots, and I have repeatedly upgraded my NVME to as fast as I can go for video swap surface before it gets to my NAS. One other item you don't often find on B650 is Thunderbolt4, which, if you are also dealing with creator purposes, you are likely to need. So, plan on your purpose. Are you building to game? Or are you building to create? Very different. And, at a certain point, you may hit an area where looking at Threadripper pays off. I'm not eager to upgrade my Threadripper 5975, but PCI-E lanes, but for some users, this will matter. Keep in mind: fastest graphics card will also be very different based on your build purposes.

For Zen5 remember there are 28 PCIe lanes. 4 are reserved for taking to the chipset(s) if you are 670 chipset is really just two 650s chained onto the same 4x PCI chipset lanes. The other 24 lanes are normally diveded between 16 for GPU slot, 4 for main M.2, 4 for second M.2 the final 4 are either a PCI slot (often a x16 slot but only wired with 4 lanes) a 3rd lane or on a handful of bards they use these for a 40gb/s USB4 port.

I think you are highly overestimating how fast people have been upgrading saying that "most" people dont even use sata ports anymore. I think most people are still on sata and a high portion of people are still using hard drives. M.2s are still very new for almost every normal people out there.

First of all, thank you for the great videos. 2 I have a nice Ryzen 7 5800x 32Gb RAM in an X570 Steel Legends, although I know it is a very good PC so far, I took advantage of a super offer from Newegg and bought a Prime x670p Wifi for only 135usd (taxes included), I know it is not the best x670 but at that price I could not resist

I got the ASUS TUF x670e-plus wifi and happy with it. When I was looking the I/O is what really sold me on it. I didn't like the orange coloring but with my LEDs set to red you can't even see the orange at all so it worked out.

Absolutely great video, thanks Jason. I’m not currently building but use your videos to help friends and family that ask me for advice, as things change so much and I wouldn’t give out advice unless I had a good information source. I really like the Strix F board (especially as it is on sale in the uk at £209 right now) but I wish it had the Q-code reader (has helped me troubleshoot in the past) and a usb c header. The Strix b650e e gaming has these features for £269, but users need to be careful. If I’m not mistaken when M.2_3 is populated, PCIEx16_1 runs in X8 mode. Maybe not a problem right now but could be down the line for high end gaming builds. Just seems an odd choice to make as the second pcie slot may not be effected. This could be a topic to cover in an advanced builders guild. ‘’Understanding your motherboard’s connectivity and the importance of reading your manual”. Plus how to decide what features are important.

Im new to PC gaming, my current mid- high build is from 2019 with a 2080 super 8GB and i9900K. I know its an old build but the ray tracing on games is beautiful. Nvidia does offer more features and is king of ray tracing but the vram is joke for the price. A 7900XTX 24GB for $800-$850 or a 7900XT 20GB for $600-$650 is such a steal. I know prices fluctuates but still. In the end build what you can afford and what you want from it. Amazing video!

I'm locked into a higher price range because I want a post code led screen to do my own troubleshooting if need be. I don't want a brick. It's just a little extra built-in tech support insurance. (And a SPDIF is nice). But, I'm limited to the Taichi Lite or the Strix E-E. A post code screen is like a $5 feature that I have to pay $50-$80 more to get now. ~eyeroll~ Any thoughts?

Anyone reading this just be advised that the B650 Tomahawk for some reason has a really slow boot time, but if you want 6 PWM fan headers I think it's the only board that offers that many.

I just got the third MSI B550 board, the VDH one (older Wifi), for just $104. Now, just a few days later, not even in yet, it’s already only $99. I didn’t like how the $89 board had so few USB ports (though I have a splitter for my current laptop), and the buyer rating is much higher.

I've been super hooked to your videos as of late Jason and I'm learning so much stuff. I'm ordering the parts for my first PC build hopefully next week but I'd like to confirm something about the mobo before I do that. I'm getting a Ryzen 5 7600 paired with an RX 7800 XT, and for mobo I was going to go for the MSI Pro B650M-A. Is this one still good enough if my purpose for this build is gaming at 1440p? Or would you recommend to take the leap up to the more premium "gaming" motherboards shown in the video? (Case is going to be the Antec NX410 you recommended so no problems about the size) Cheers!

7:57 You would serve the viewer better on this topic if you noted not simply the avg m2 slots available but also how many can run at full speed. This is the single biggest reason to recommend X chipsets. Not only do X come with more m2 but they likely will run at full speed. Obviously not saying to mention every version like this but in general X allows less peripheral speed reduction than B. Note not all add ons might get full speed on B. B650 is much improved over b450/b550. B450 allows only 1 NVMe drive to run full gen3 speed and any other m2 or adapter cards will be limited to 1500-2000mb read/write. B550 is similar with usually only 1 NVMe drive able to run at full gen4 7000mb speeds and the 2nd m2 or adapter at half that. X570 usually has 2-3 m2 slots with almost always them running full gen4 spec. B650 very similar to x570 usually has 2-3 m2 with all running gen4 full speed. Adapter cards likely will have reduced gen4 max speeds. X670 is 3-5 m2 slots with usually one rated for gen5 and the rest full gen4 speeds.
