Spuds & Roses Gardening

Spuds & Roses Gardening

Күн бұрын

Gardening in home kitchen garden, greenhouse, orchard, rose garden and other ornamental areas in windy South-West on Ireland. Always companioned by our playful sheepdog.
April is going to be an extra busy month, and because of this, every little moment of good weather is usually utilized by weeding, sowing, planting etc.
And there are still some jobs I didn't get to finish in March.... Rolling up my sleeves....
Ready, Steady, Go!
I hope you'll enjoy it, and if you do, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe for all the latest updates.

Well done for doing your own thing 🙌🙌 It might come as a surprise...but so is our garden. Ours is the only garden around our community, where we grow ornamentals, fruit trees and vegetables. And we're right in the middle of the countryside, a prime location to try to grow.... But unfortunately, nobody does. Only some hedges, and herds of cattle for beef or milk, horses and ponies.... a few have hens and ducks......buts that's it. Sometimes it makes me sad, seeing all this potential being left unused, then I just have to focus and do better in my our garden, for our family 💚🌿 Happy gardening and best wishes, Maiju 💚🌿

If I had some where to send them I could send you some pics and videos then you can see what I say is correct. It’s so exciting now we have hit April and can get some things out and sowing the crops. The roots on those broad beans were impressive. Our roses seemed to come back to life pretty early this year. I guess the winter was fairly mild, even though to us the wet weather was relentless. The hens were funny following you so closely where you were edging. No fear of the electric shears. Interesting to see what you think of the new varieties of potatoes at harvest (and eating time). I’m really excited for potato and carrots harvests. Arguably the harvests with the most anticipation I’ve got purple dwarf and climbing beans this year. Also growing Greek gigantes this year and very much looking forward to those for cooking as butter beans are my absolute favourite. ❤️ I think I’ll be a bit behind you for the courgettes and cucumbers. When is your last frost date there? Great video, as always ❤
@spudsandroses
@spudsandroses Ай бұрын
Thank you, Clare 🤗🥰The weather was very mild indeed this winter, and I tend to leave the climbing roses last to prune, but they still started to grow quicker than I was ready to prune them....The hens are very brave, once they assume there's grubs or worms about, nothing bothers them 😅I was a bit concerned as well, how close they were while I was clipping, but I did move my own location from time to time while they were busy scratching about....😊 Our last frost date should be very end of April, but we've had frost mid May too.. You're not behind with your sowings, but I've seemed to be always one of the last ones to plant up my greenhouse with summer crops, as in there I can still fleece plants if there's a cold spell, so really there is no need to delay it either. Tomato seedlings have been living in there for the last week now, with temps dropping down to 5C or so during night, and they're fine 😊 Have a great weekend and best wishes, Maiju 💚🌿

Why don't you try dwarf french beans, they taste very nice and don't need stakes. Peas I have had very good results with Hurst Greenshaft. Carrots I sow in January. Think you are one of the better gardeners have seen on KZfaq as some ain't a clue. Maincrop spuds I hope to lift on Sunday. I think you could have picked a better place to garden as S.W. Ireland is wide open to all the fronts coming in from the Atlantic and would expect that i is extremely windy at times. You could move any where that takes your fancy in the E.E.C. without a problem, if you so wish. Don't know which first early spuds you use , but I can highly recommend Vanessa, Red and very versatile and firm.

Thank you for all your kind words 😊💚 and I'll bear in mind the names of the varieties you mentioned. Hello, and thank you for your kind comment 💚 I'm very sorry about the subtitles. Turkish isn't a language KZfaq has added as a translation option yet. Maybe someday 😌 Thank you, and happy gardening 💚🌿

Alas, what can I say, when I planted the beans I was eagerly looking forward to fall until I was ready to harvest them when my dog destroyed them. After watching your video, I think I'll try growing it again. Hopefully this time there will be food.

Hi 😀, it is disheartening when the eagerly waited crop either yields no returns or it gets damaged/destroyed.....I hope you'll try growing it again. I've had numerous disasters with our dog in the garden 😅, but with patience and a bit of time, he has learned how to behave around the plants, especially in the kitchen garden.... Happy gardening 😊💚🌿

Be careful of new varieties of potatoes, as there is experimentation on GMO potatoes and they will be weaker after a while, so you will have to continue to buy new ones in the shop. My fear about GMO is that men think they can improve on what God has made, and in doing so will cause a famine

Thank you 💚 The GMO is so scary and now, with AI becoming so popular, too .... where do we end up like that....😳 Luckily there are strong restrictions on GMO in Europe, including Ireland As far as I know, the only GMO crop allowed to be grown is maize for cattle...., but even getting too dependent on F1 varieties should be something to be aware of 💚 Thank you for your comment 😊💚🌿
