Killer Bees in a pecan tree? Better call the B-Team! These Killer Bees are nuts, and only Reed and the crew can stop them! Climb a Little Giant ladder to this monster hive in the sky, and watch these crazy critters light up like fireworks!

I should have learned from Hosh. I was climbing up a ladder leaning on my pole barn post. My wife asked, "Do I need to hold the ladder?" "No, I've got it." I said. Got to the top of the ladder and it spun and I fell hitting a 2x4 going between two posts. Yeah, broke 2 ribs. I did get the, " I asked if I needed to hold the ladder" from my wife after we got home from the ER. 😢

You should get a couple of different style stand off bars to hook up and over the tree crotches. They're cheap and great for safety from the ladders tipping you over.

That orchard could stand some thinning, the crowns are crowding each other already. Looks like one of those 'followed what the county ag extension guy said' layouts .. My preference leans more towards anticipating the eventual crown spread, and interplanting species that I can harvest as the nut trees fill out .. all the same, I was surprised to see that hive. Those ectomycorrhizal species tend to support other fungi that produce antibiotics for bees, so the hive would be nice and healthy .. but what else are they eating? I LOVE our little giant, and we plan on getting more of 'em. I can keep fruit trees topped, and stay safe doing it 😎 (edit) Thoughts. Would dropping those combs on a tarp work better than trying to catch them in a tote? Additional thoughts. I am going to have to get started with some intentional bee keeping soon, or I'm going to have to call y'all in 😁

Andy (the guy that runs the place) said that they will be thinning in a month or so. Not sure where you are located but I'm told mother nature has a lot to do with when things get done in an orchard. @@KillerBeeGuy I would say that an old fire dept. ladder truck (short version) would be better. With a bucket truck, your stuck up there when shit goes sideways. With a ladder truck, you can climb down quickly and you don't have to worry about securing wobbly extension ladders.

Hey Reed, Hosh and Trez. This is the guy who''s wife questioned my first killer bee honey purchase while we were butt naked in our hot tub. (Now she LOVES the honey. On our 3rd 48oz jar). But I have a question that's been bugging me for decades (I'm that old): Could Africanized honey bees have been in the US before the 90s? I ask because we had some seriously aggressive wild honey bees in our neighborhood growing up in the mid/late 70s. There were old tree stumps we had to avoid because we'd get swarmed from 20-50 ft away. Friend went to the hospital after getting stung up when we were about 7 or 8 & I took about 20-30 stings while running my scrawny little ass to the house with honey bees swarming me. All because we were riding our bikes in the back yard avoiding those fucking stumps. Neighbors got together and used all sorts of commercial insecticides, foggers and even gasoline to kill them off and got stung up before we got rid of them. The neighborhood went to war with the honey bees because people/pets were getting stung up constantly. We had trucks from the county putting extra DDT in the air hoping it would get rid of the bees. I can still remember the taste of those foggers. Is it possible one of the local beekeepers got Africanized bees sent to them accidentally and never knew because I swear those fucking bees, when I was a kid, were VISCIOUS and still are when found in the wild around there. This was in Middle River, MD. Look up where the Conrail/Amtrak train accident happened in the 90s. That's the area.
@KillerBeeGuy
@KillerBeeGuy 5 ай бұрын
HA! I remember! As to the Killers... It may have been possible that the Africanized honeybees were here in the late 80s but i seriously doubt way back in the 70s. could they have been ground hornets? Also there are strains of more aggressive Europeans that can be pissy. Usually not that bad. I'm glad you guys are enjoying the honey!!

I wonder why you kill everything and not try to keep the honey? Those are honey bees... Killer bees would've attacked you long before you got to the top of that ladder. Just because 90% of the hives you encounter are killer bees, doesn't mean they all are... And them attacking you is a natural defense, just they same response you would give to an intruder if they were breaking into your house while you were home.
@KillerBeeGuy

Mono crops and big AG benefit from the overwhelming numbers of bees in a hive. Native plants and pollinators are no match for the invasive honeybees. They do not belong here. Big AG are the winners with honeybees.

The bees are following a pheromone, they were only stirred up by your lack of treating them with respect. If someone was breaking into your house while you were feeding your kids, what would you do? let them break in and do what they want or fight til the death til you got them out of your house??
