The ongoing story of the Peckforton Light Railway. This episode covers the period from 2016 to 2018 and covers the time I set up and ran RC Trains and on to the development of the lineside industries on the railway. Wonderful yet again. I particularly was impressed with your simple and effective replacement for the standard LGB hook an loop couplers. Very clever and, well, cool. Job well done and thanks so very much for these videos. Being able to see the formation and the thoughts behind it are truly inspiring.

Superb Rik........especially loved the PLR seat frames (sort of detail that makes the whole thing "live".). My two LGB battery & RC conversions you rigged out still going strong - a testimony to your brilliant work. Thank you for sharing...it will no doubt inspire many others.

Thanks Jon. Pleased to hear the two conversions are still behaving themselves. Seems like yesterday.

Hi there Rik, hard to believe my first visit was in 2016! Lovely to see the railway evolve, it is a beautiful line and I thoroughly enjoyed my visits. Perhaps one day I'll find myself back in your neck of the woods, there are two more locos which have yet to grace PLR metals!

Is the Accucraft Excelsior considered a vintage loco now? What year did they release again?
@DebenValleyLightRail
@DebenValleyLightRail 3 жыл бұрын
@@SteamTrainsNStuff I don't know the exact dates as it is second hand but StationRoadSteam sold an excelsior which Brandbright had sold in 2001, it was no. 143. Mine is No. 19, I suppose that makes my one somewhere between 20 and 22 years old at a guess? I don't know what counts as vintage but its certainly plodded a few miles in its time!

Yes I would call the Accucraft Excelsior vintage. Mine is Number 17 as far as I can remember. Lovely little engines. Yours Zach is one of the better examples I’ve seen. I can’t remember which of your fleet it was you brought to Llechfan in July 2019, Doubleheaded with Dougs Bertie?

@@britrailtog7085 That's very kind, I'm rather fond of it. I suspect it was the Merlin Little Wonder "River Tang" which is RC. Doug's Bertie put in most of the work and River Tang just managed the speed assisting where nessesary, in much the same way as double heading or banking is worked normally.

Yet again I'm fascinated by your railway. If your looking for inspiration for a new obscure wagon you should Google "0n30 wagons" and go to images some of them have to be seen to be believed. Keep up the good work

I got my radio control equipment from you at RC trains. I only have it in attachment vans and coaches as when playing trains I dont do any shunting. In fact I dont have any pointwork outside at all. The radio control coupled with the home made gearboxes and battery power has changed the running of the locomotives and they will creep round the garden at a snails pace if needed. I am not an electronics expert and when I kept losing control of one the other day found it was a flat battery in the transmitter!. Radio control is better than DCC in my opinion. rgds

Hi Graham - I have to agree - but then you'd expect me to wouldn't you. Glad to hear the RCT gear is still working well. Over the years I've only had one transmitter failed on m e (though I am touching wood as I type this)

@@rikbennett9 I had a tx pack up but was able to get a replacement pcb and repaired it. One of the receivers gave up as well. Now Deltang are going to stop making the RX65 due to one component being unavailable. I have one ( Rx/Tx) set from Fosworks which works well but not had much chance to use it so far. On the whole it all works very well and I ve been pleased with though I dont have sound or other things. Best wishes

Hi Jay. I bashed the Airfix beam engine plastic kit into a sort of horizontal steam engine. I don't think they produce the beam engine kit any more - I bought mine secondhand on eBay. There's more info about how I detailed the interior of the sawmill on my blog - riksrailway.blogspot.com/2018/06/how-i-detailed-interior-of-my-sawmill.html

What are your thoughts on the reopening of beeston/Tarporley station?

I have been pressing for this for years. Let's hope that the housing developments on the old Beeston Market site adds to the persuasiveness of the argument

Just wondering, is there a particular reason why UK steam locomotives generally had inboard valve gear and/or cylinders? Seems like it would only induce maintenance headaches.
@rikbennett9
@rikbennett9 2 жыл бұрын
Not really sure. It might be because they wanted the locos to be easy to re-gauge. I would imagine that will be easier on a loco with inside motion. One feature of UK railways is the vast number of different gauges there were. Even supposed 2' gauge railways varied from 1'10½, through 1’ 11½, 1’ 11 5/8, 1' 11¾ to 2' gauge)

@@rikbennett9 Most of my collection is 32 unfortunately. But I’ve got a few nice battery diesels and a 45mm battery powered Double Fairlie that could use putting through its paces. That plus the usual suspects of regaugeable live steam locos (Lady Anne, Darjeeling B, Mortimer, Excelsior, etc)
@rikbennett9
@rikbennett9 3 жыл бұрын
@@britrailtog7085 Great. My curves are a bit tight and gradients quite severe, so bear that in mind. Zach's Excelsior seemed to cope OK, though. The double Fairlie *ought* to be at home .....
@britrailtog7085
@britrailtog7085 3 жыл бұрын
@@rikbennett9 the Fairlie is a GRS one so should be fine. The Darj B class enjoys steep gradients and tight radius as well being only an 0-4-0ST. The PLR looks a lovely little railway and it’s also giving off a few hints of The old Compton Down. I similarly converted a railway I was involved with to RC from track power back in 2016, solved lots of issues.
