The main reason that Peckforton Light Railway has not suffered the same fate as other narrow gauge railways in the UK during the Great Depression of the 1920s, is that it has a several buoyant lineside businesses which use it for the transportation of their raw materials and products. The PLR is a hypothetical three foot narrow gauge railway set in the Cheshire countryside. It is a garden railway modelled in 16mm scale on 45mm gauge track. I love the way in which it really does appear to be a genuine working line, built to carry out very specific transportation tasks. Very realistic.

Having a pocket handkerchief for a garden I am forced to enjoy garden railwaying vicariously. I say 'forced' but watching Peckforton in operation is always a joy. Having a purpose for the railway does make all the difference. Thanks.

Simply the most highly detailed garden railway I have ever seen. The way you have named the owners of the businesses reminds me of chigley

Thanks. I base all the names on real tradesmen from the 1911 census return for the area - and assume their offspring would have continued the businesses twenty years later. Hopefully, I'll still be around in 2031 when the 1931 census returns are made available and can see if my predictions have been correct.

@@rikbennett9 I am even more impressed now. That is a great touch and as I said, it brings the whole thing to life, which is why everyone was carefully named in trumpton, camberwick green and chigley. As a 54 year old they were my favourite programs from a peaceful time.... can I ask more detail about the sound chips you use?

If you mean the two-foot gauge feeder railway, I think that went in about five years ago. I don't always remember to set it up with stock though.

Do you keep all your structures outside, or set them out during a running session? some of them look very fine !
@rikbennett9
@rikbennett9 3 жыл бұрын
A bit of both. The (resin) station building stay outside all year but most of the rest are set out only for running sessions. PVC foamboard is weather resistant, but I don't fancy repainting those buildings every three or four years.

Have you considered adding a standard gauge transfer years siding? Or are the goods travelling further afield via road?
@rikbennett9
@rikbennett9 3 жыл бұрын
The transfer siding is 'off stage'. Actually, it's a link back to the copper mine so I can exchange full skips for empty ones.
