Learn to ride...yeah, the C14 is heavy, but that just means that you have to muscle it into the turns. I have embarrassed sport bike riders on mine, and 4 hours into the ride they want to take a break, while I want to keep going. I'm a 75 year old rider, been riding since 1962.

After nearly 4 decades of riding and all that time dreaming, I finally got myself a Concours 14 this spring. I have rode it all season, and I couldn't be happier- By far the best motorcycle I have owned, it's amazing all around.

I own this same year and color Connie and the only thing I do not like about it is the heat coming from the engine, it is very intense when its warm outside. The buffeting, I cured with a C Bailey`s Euro sport shield. I installed a K&N air filter, Area P Exhaust, Power Commander 5 and I have removed the Secondary Butterflies and tuned it! This is the most reliable Bike I have owned. The suspension needs adjusting to make the handling full sport right, change the change the fork oil out and use 10 weight and it changes everything. I run Michelin Road Tires and I never have trouble running with the super sport bikes on the twisties, the weight disappears! I now have 100k miles on it and the only mechanical failures are the front wheel bearings ($30) and the rear Brake Light switch ($22). No, I do not need heated grips or cruise control or ABS..I am kind of a Purest in that respect. Valve adjustments have been done twice once at 40K and 9 were out and again at 85k and 2 were out, just barely. I do not agree with alot of what you complain about.

I own 2 bikes. I started on and still own an 08 cbr600rr which I’ve put 40k on over 8 years. Then I bought my c14 and what a dream! It’s faster than my 600, way more comfortable, and almost as nimble in the curves. It’s a total sleeper. I way 145 lbs and I can manhandle it through corners with ease. It has the perfect blend of comfort and sheer power. It looks big but once you get over 15-20mph you can’t feel the weight. I’m 26 with 10 years supersport bike riding experience. I get 45-49 mpg doing 90mph… 240+ miles per tank! 55mpg doing 60mph! Fuel economy is way better than he says. I’ve made 260 mile trips on one tank several times all while winding out the throttle along the way.

I've been riding for 44 years now and have owned 37 motorcycles in that time. The last three bikes have been a Concours 14, a Goldwing, and once again, a Concours 14. The Goldwing only shines on a super-slab highway was a handful in the city - especially in parking lots despite having reverse. I was sorry I sold my 2012 Concours 14 and purchased a 2008 which I find to be much better. So far I don't miss the traction control or economy mode at all, and best of all, the vague feeling of the linked braking is gone! I consider the early model Concours 14 to be far superior except on very hot days where my lower legs get a bit warm. Further, it seems you haven't put enough miles on your Concours 14 - or you haven't ridden your Goldwing enough... the Concours 14 feels nimble and lithe compared to the Goldwing! So far out of 37 motorcycles in 44 years of riding, the Concours 14 is number 1!

I've ridden the hell out of the C14 and the only cows I saw were the other bikes that I left behind " hail to the king"

One thing every C1400 needs is a rear tire that's a 55 series , not 50 that comes stock. Big handling difference.

Having owned that exact same bike and putting over 100k miles on it, I would beg to differ on this review on some issues. Personally, the only negative issue I found problematic is with those tire sensors. They were notorious for battery failures after about two years or 30k miles, but were rectified with the ability to change out the batteries years later. Every other negative comment about the bike I would say could be subjective after a much longer time aboard the machine. I can truly understand the curb appeal of the concours when compared to the VFR with great respect as both bikes might seem similar but are actually very different in their purpose. I agree the concours was designed for crossing state lines solo or with a passenger having the ability to quickly lose your license and go to jail ending you trip abruptly... 😂 While on the other hand the VFR is a great commuter bike for those solo excursions. That extra weight and power with the Connie pays huge dividends loaded with another passenger and luggage when riding down the interstate for hours at a time. Cruise control was always another complaint for most owners, and yeah it would have been nice, but keeping the price low was team greens mission for that, and I could have had it installed myself if really needed for that extra 1000 dollars if I chose to. The one thing I found completely brilliant, but others hated about the 08 and 09 years was the heat from the motor. I can't even begin to explain how awesome it felt on those cool morning rides thru the mountains or thru the winter months having that heat keeping your feet and legs warm. A pair of heated gloves and vest liner were always kept in the left side case for my long trips. But for those 90 degree days through summer traffic why choose the concours over the VFR anyway. Many sport bike owners were shocked at the power and abilities on rides lead by me and my Connie. The 09 in that color will always have my 2 thumbs up.

This guy would hate the old motorcycles I grew riding where your BRAIN was the onboard computer, your SKILL was the ride modes, and your PRE-TRIP INSPECTION monitored the tires and fluids.

I've got a 17 C-14 and it's incredible........after I made it my own with full Delkevic exhaust, Sprint air filter, ECU tune by Ivan's Performance Products, Dunlop RS3's, Kawi touring seat, T-Rex crash bars, AND WHAT I JUST DISCOVERED TODAY, RIGHT CLICK THE FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENTS ALL THE WAY TO THE MAX SETTINGS!!! Incredible machine!!!

I have a 2012 Concours 14, ~50 pounds lighter titanium exhaust/cat delete, ECU remapped, and dyno tuned. My group includes mostly 1000cc sport bikes, and believe it or not, I apparently have the fastest bike. H2 guy asked if my bike goes 200mph after he couldn't

Come on man.. I've ridden almost everything out there that has fast and agile written on it. Including the H2, and turbo Busa's. The C14 can hold it's own for a heavy machine in capable hands. I had two of the old C1000's that made great commuters and had ok power. My slightly modified ZZR1200 was no joke at all. I currently own a ''modified for me'' 2011 C14 and a 2020 Multistrada 1260s. For whatever you folks reading this ride. I salute you!

I have had three of these, 2008, 2009 exactly like yours and a 2011. They are great upright crotch rockets with one glaring flaw, they are top heavy...

I never had a speeding ticket until I got this bike. The mph speedo feels like kph. It likes to cruise at 110 mph all day, with plenty of power left. The issue with low end power is dealt with via ECU flash. I ride with the windshield low when in small towns that I’m unfamiliar with so I can watch my speed better.

Great review from someone with an understanding of mechanics and geometry. Bought a 2008 last summer and it’s great at eating up the miles and overtaking’s never a problem when you use second and third. But it is a heavy bike 👍

I have a 2010 model. A first I bloody hated it. Horrible fueling, snatchy on off throttle which lead to clunky gear changes, stalling issue's and surprisingly a lack of mid range for a massive engine. An ecu remap from Steve at Shouldaben engineering cured the above. More torque, more bhp, better mpg, smoother gear shifts. Now I love the bike although she is still a fickle lady, quite fussy about tires, the linked brakes could be alot better. For a bike of this size you can still have fun if you want to scratch... PS.. If you have a heavy throttle hand the big girl will distroy back tires... Fat Ninjas rule..

I impulsively bought an FJR1300 after comparing the c14. I should’ve stuck with getting the C14. My wife couldn’t get comfortable on the FJR, so we eventually got a ZG1200… a giant road couch that we love. I noticed the c14 aftermarket accessories for passengers is much better than the FJR. Maybe one day, when I get my bikes sorted, we’ll get a C14

The 'winding up for power' is nothing to do with the transmission. The GTR (as does the ZZR) 1400 has secondary throttle blades that block the throttle bodies even when you ask for full throttle. These only START to open at around 5000 rpm, hence the slow start affecting both the GTR and ZZR. They can be either removed manually (not really the best solution) or the bike can be remapped so they open at 2000rpm. This makes a colossal difference. The reason both the second gen GTR and later zzr models go better is because Kawasaki realised their mistake, and allowed the secondary blades to open earlier out of the factory. The gearing is fine on the early GTRs and ZZRs.

6:31 replace the standard 50 profile rear tire with a 55 profile and that improves the handling.

Great review. I ride a K1600GT and it handles really well, except for slow speeds it weighs about 800lbs. The only thing I don't like about the Connie is the fact that they don't have cruise control. At 68, i really need cruise control.

I didn’t like lane splitting till I got stuck in LA gridlock in the summer on my air cooled 78 Z1-R. The 03 Concours I bought had one of those butt-cup seats like the 1400 Concours has, which I hated. Maybe from putting over 100,000 miles on the Z1-R, which had a mostly flat seat, allowing lots of forward and aft movement depending how I was riding. Solved the 03 Connie problem with a seat from an 86 model, which is how they should be.

I totally agree on this bike being way to heavy, part of it being the transverse 4's high center of gravity. Mine is a 2014 so a lot of the other complaints don't apply & I actually LOVE the styling. I reduced the weight ~25lb & also the low speed power with the Area-P mods , added a friction throttle for cruise but it's still way more cumbersome to ride than my 1985 Harley Tourglide which it replaced ( admittedly way lighter at 740lb dry than current models) I'm glad I never sold it because I prefer it so much I've only put 1,000 miles on the Concours, partially because the key FOB has been so glitchy I've never trusted it far from home (the auto-locking fairing glove box has never locked either) Also the battery is so small it's always dead & compartment so tight it's a pain to replace. I wanted one of these for years ( since around 1990 when Harleys got so expensive) as the reviews were always so glowing. If it would have been me doing the review I would have said to get the ZX14 instead, an after market fuller coverage windscreen is available & Corbin bags can be adapted to create a 100lb. lighter proper GT bike.

The C14 is a fantastic machine with suspension and ECU flash. Both are absolute musts. The chassis is tall, flexy, and top heavy, but it eats road like a freaking land missile. I de-ABSed mine, it is dreamy with real brakes.

Love the powerful - LWB - sport tourers. Living with a 2006 BMW K1200S; in Western Colorado (no tickets, YET!!) it is easy to hop on and ride clean, empty roads that seem to be built for these bikes. Easily 90 - 100 mph + for miles and miles through sweepers, mountains and open desert landscapes, are where these shine. You made a key point at the start, having the presence of mind to manage the power and know when, where to do this style of riding. For urban riding definitely would be looking at something with a shorter wheelbase and more neutral riding position.

im 6 foot 3 the choice is between sindscreen all the way up with air smacking my head or down and its like a normal bike. i often switch back and forth to just change the experience when crushing miles.

you must be dogging the crap outta that bike to only be getting 35mpg? I have a 2008 that routinely is over 42mpg, going over 200 miles per fill.

Got this as my first bike and I've gotta say, it's like you're trying to tame a dragon. Once you get that down though, it's a bliss to ride.

To me this is far to negative, this is one of the best touring bikes ever, and yes, its heavy but they all are, they are not sports bikes.

i have an 08 and its great, best generation of these bikes. your tire pressure and suspension settings are wrong. they give you adjustments to make it good and I dont think its unreasonable to say you cant knock it withought spending some time adjusting. 32 psi is way way too low, its a heavy bike get them up into the low 40s and its transformed into a very nimble machine. I've got the settings perfect and i often take off the bags and run it in the canyons. trail breaking turns the front tire into a triangle profile fairly quickly compared to other bikes, but that's not a deal killer. i get better mileage than that, 37ish on long sporty rides. 58, 101, g16 going la to laguna seca, many 110+mph runs got that. tire pressure is propbibly makes that difference. buddy on my ktm 1290 gt in the same ride tracking the same speeds everywhere got the exact same amount of fuel at every stop so eh. That's just what a cable throttle feels like on a 4 cilender bike. its what a cramp buster was invented for. the cable throttle is also whats stopping them from doing cruise control. the bike has a ton of wind up its incredibly controllable, personal opinion but i dont think you need ride modes on a 4 cylinder bike. big twins yea ride modes help. as far as i see it you were running around with flat tires saying the mileage is bad and is sluggish to maneuver and from my seat like yea duh. some credentials i also own a ktm 1290gt, 990duke, fz6, suzuki bandit 1200, ninja 400.

Agree, I own the 2021 and took a trip to Tennessee and attempted the snake and it was horrible. Big heavy hard to manage. I have put 10k on it in the last year and know the bike well and found it was not a canyon carver as you say.

I have a 2017 Concourse. I totally agree with your weight related comments. It feels top heavy when compared to the GL1800 (which I owned some time ago). I still Iike it though. By the way, lane splitting is a STUPID practice....

This bike is heavy, the FJR is heavy the st1300 is heavy and I’ve ridden each of them.my concours is my daily ride. I feel like you just complained to make a video. I have 5 bikes, CBR1000 Gsxr 750 Kawasaki Vulcan, 08 FJR and 09 Concours, the heat on this bike is bad but it’s manageable ride a Harley and tell me different. The comforts are easily added, and the Dash Screen you complained about is crazy. You need a digital Speedometer so it’s difficult for you read numbers printed instead you need them digitally shown? A bike is to enjoy the ride not stare at screen. An ECU flash and a new exhaust would help with a ton of the issues you stated the stock exhaust alone is 20lbs. Stick with you day job

Ridden kawasaki since 1978. They have always been about one thing. Getting to your destination quickly. 78 kz1000, 80 ltd 650, 81 ltd 1000, 83 ltd 1100 shaft, 2006 gtr1000, 2011 zx14, 2012 zx14R, 2002 zzr1200.

I think they main reason more tourers haven't purchase this bike is that it looks dated as you say. I think Kawasaki could have been more creative with their color schemes and design. This is a bike that I could easily miss while walking by if I didn't know much of what I was looking at.

That's one of the things l live about that bike, the look! But maybe I'm weird like that.

I’m sorry but listening to this review screams gen-x or Z. The bike clearly isn’t marketed to you. It’s for older guys who want power and comfort but don’t want a gold wing or cruiser bagger. It meets that need very well. When you’re 25 years older, do a review and let me know. :-)

It's funny how you have to learn to adapt to riding a bike that wants to ride fast. Normal highway riding on my V65 Magna requires 5th gear if you don't want to ride at go to jail speeds.

This first reveiwer to call out the lack of power below 5000 rpm - aluliuh 🙏 Read n watch 15 or more such reviews on them NOT ONE reveiwer mentioned that it makes 700 cc power below 5k - all talk about "how fast it is " He calls it here well done 1400 cc should have a decent hit from 1500 rpm in my book - these feel sluggish below 5 k and thats the most dissapointing thing about the bike

I bought my 2008 Concours with 26,000kms in 2020 and has now 61,000kms. I just noticed I have no idea how I got 35,000 in two years!!! There is just one explanation: you don’t notice the kms and just go an go and go. Only oil changes and shaft oil changes and nothing else can other than tires. I love it so much that, I just purchased the one of last 2022 Concours 14 in all British Columbia, Canada. - I have been looking for one for 6 months and undecided if I should…. And the real reason is - I should. Still not sure if I will sell my 2008 or keep it just because I can and because I LOVE THEM. Here is a video of my many tours in my dear 2008 concours. The concours gets about 30mpg and 150 mile range, whereas my BMW RT gets 50mpg and 300 mile range... This makes me appreciate my RT a lot more haha
