Fully agree. I have yet to really be disagreeable with anything about it. Hard to believe this a budget model in the pedal kayak world.

I have found that when standing up, if I am fast I am more stable from the start. Just do it like you are saying. Now sitting, I tend to go a little easier. I have come close to flipping over the side a couple of times by miscalculating the kayak's movement 🤣

The time of year is right my friend. Keep an eye out for kayak demo events. I see them popping up in Upstate South Carolina already. If you go with this model, let me know if you have any questions. I would be more than happy to give my thoughts.

Nothing wrong with the Pelican. It holds up, the support is good, and it's great for some serious recreational fishing. I just wish they would drop the price back down. 1500 is pushing the price you can get some mid-range kayaks from Grady's. My Old Town Sportsman 106 PDL was 2100 ya know. I am not trying to discourage you, it's just that everything cost so dang much right now ya know.

It really did, and I have had this video since Jan 🤣 Congrats man. I am doing great over hear as well. Since Jan I have got down to 241, as of this week. Another 25 and the target weight is achieved.

This would be unbelievably stable teen to youth. You could probably find a used one for under 900.

You rocking this same model? If so, what are you considering the upgrade? I was thinking maybe a kayak from Lightning, but I am digging the Lynx style. Going to use this one until at least next year, maybe two.

I have heard of a few having a tough go. Other than me being hard on the drives, they have been reliable. I also know of vidoes where people do what your friend did. They love it and gain reverse. I might try to trade my fish finder for one. Gaining the reverse would be awesome.

The second rule is.. I know, I know lol. I couldn't find one in the stores when I was looking. In the end, they won. I tore my jacket retrieving it. I really do like this one. It just doesn't let me down. I think in the next year or two I will get something a little heavier, but this one is holding up super well.

I actually went the other way. I went with the Old Town PDL 106 after the Pelican and can still say, I don't regret getting the Pelican at all. The Old Town is different animal, but in the price range and the features included make it unbeatable IMO. What you paid is what non-pedal drive models go for used. Super nice pickup!

I would try to register the kayak at the pelican website. If you can get it warranted, some people don't register so I would try, or ask that they give you the info you need to get support. Pelican support is amazing and will send you replacement parts with just a couple of questions ( I think it's a 5 year warranty on the drive and lifetime on the hull). Those pegs, really do nothing in the end. They are meant for a guide the drive into the port. The only issues that really took my drive down was the cable broke. Those are less than 50 to replace. The good news about this drive, is it's simple. Pedals - A nut to hold them on Fins - Really just the rods that go into them. Those can be broken. Contact Pelican and they can quote them, part is like 12 dollars if I remember and you get two. Tension cables and nuts - You can get a couple of spare nuts from any hardware store. You might want to keep at least one spare cable. This is where I had failure once. If you get 5 miles from the ramp and the drive breaks, it's a long paddle back in this kayak. Chain - Grease twice per year, I do it in Jan and again in July, this just keeps it smooth Rudder Cables - replace every other years IMO, you will notice they get loose and frail. If these go down on the water, you an still pedal and use the paddle to steer The chain, nuts, and fin rods, I would get them ordered and keep them with me, unless you are just recreational cruising, then you likely won't go more than 1 or 2 miles from the ramp.

I waw 277 when I started and 205 now. The pelican catch series will never be the most stable. Standing always felt wobbly compared to my Old Town. I sold the catch when I was at 230 pounds but had no mobility issues. The drive was plenty fast and I never felt like I was sinking. The workout isn't bad and you can adjust the tension cables. It's like a 10 speed. You can be loose with the pedals and a little slower for longer or power pedaling for speed in short burts. Somewhere in the middle was the sweet spot for me.

Yeah, I used it for a couple of years and never had that issue. Was it a matter of it just changing directions when it wasn't supposed to or poor turning in general? Sounds like the rudder is not going down all the way or staying. I know a guy who installed a rudder extension, homemade, and it boosed his turning from bad to amazing, on his Pelican.

Yeah man. Sounds like the tension cables are uneven. If they were installed at the store, this likey is it. I would do this... Check the tension cables on the rudder. Loosen both, put the knob straight and pull them evenly. If you can get someone to keep the rudder handle straight it would help. You can also adjust the cables under the rudder knob but it's tough to get to get it even from that way. It's really that simple. It's a two cable tension system that just needs adjusting. This video might help getting the rudder balanced correctly. It says install but explains how it all works. I ended up selling when I changed my water behaviors. I went with an Old Town that cost a little bit more, but the reverse, stability, and ease on endurance was a must for me. I think if I had my Pelican still, I wouldn't be competing big tournaments.

I was 275 when I had this kayak. You can absolutely use it. Your weight will not be a problem at all. Standing is just tough on this kayak but to sit and fish, you are good in it.
