I bought a used Kayak for $900 dollars. This is the Pelican Catch 130 HD Pedal drive system. This kayak is known for a few issues with the drive system but it worked well for me. Pelican is working with me to get the updated drive system and the customer service is outstanding. For the price point of $1499.00 brand new this I a great alternative and very budget friendly. I just got one from a guy that money was no object for. It is 6 months old and he sold it to me for $500, basically brand spankin new and only used it to change his prop on his boat docked at his house. Can't wait to get it in the water.

My front fin post pulled out of the brass insert while in 75ft of water doing 2mph. I had never had any collisions as I knew there was a failure point there. But a week later I received a HDII system under warranty.

Thanks for watching. Mine had a portion of the guide pin that helps align the drive into to slot broken. It was mainly cosmetic but I did the warranty process and they sent a new HDII out with a week. I hope there customer service holds up. Once all the faulty HD are sorted out and they have shipped out new HDII to everyone parts replacement may become more of a process

Yeah I’m 5’8” and it’s a stable platform for me. It’s a great boat for most people and affordable. If you are taller standing up will be a bit more challenging but it’s definitely doable. Thanks for the comment

Great review! I’m considering purchasing this kayak. Is the seat high enough to keep from getting wet if there’s a little water on the deck?

Hello yes the seat sits off the deck enough to keep you dry. When I was crossing back river it took a wave to the side of the boat and it got my one side a little wet. That was my own fault no fault of the kayak. The deck stayed dry pretty much all day other than when I was paddling. I’m 180LB and 5’”8 and it is a great platform for me. Hope this helps

I bought my catch 130 used for $700 with the HDII. I think they stopped making the catch 130 because no store in 200 mile away has them in stock.

Does it go in reverse?

Hello this drive does not. The cradle is identical to a Hobie so the 180 drive will fit in there and you have reverse. The problem is finding a Hobie drive for under $800 to $1000. I only paid $800 for the kayak I’m going to try and buy just the 180 spine and convert it with the HDII parts

It does kinda have reverse, you take it out and flip it around.
