In my experience with this ten years ago it was not medically recognized. After years of any research I could find I believe it is connected with stress and people who are pleasers, the peace keepers. I had to distance myself from some family members and friends. They were stressing me out and I never realized this was going on at the time. I can only imagine how this affects a man. Women can get some relief from physical therapy. But men, I hope you can find some relief from this severe muscle pain. 🙏

Stress can affect the body in so many ways; especially in the pelvic floor! We are happy that the pelvic health field is gaining more recognition. Everyone has a pelvic floor, and pelvic floor muscles. We see men & women equally in our patient load, and are appreciative every time they get referred (as this is a growing field).

I had pain for 7 months before getting PT. The exercises work amazingly, now after only 3 treatments and a prostrate-friendly chair; I am getting closer back to normal. However, now I am dealing with exhaustion and was told that is expected. I finally feel light at the end of the tunnel and healing.
@PelvicHealth
@PelvicHealth Жыл бұрын
It is so great to hear how the PT, exercises and a better chair allow you to feel close to normal! Some level of fatigue is expected, especially if you are doing more exercises or being more active than you were. Getting good sleep and nutrition are essential. If the exhaustion interferes with your daily activities or continues for many days, then talk to your doctor about it.

I think i have either prostatitis or pudendal neuralgia. I think its less likely prostatis but seeing a urologist for this soon. I have booked an assessment with a pelvic floor PT as well. Do you think that having a procedure to remove an area of suspected skin cancer on a buttock, where it was cut about 3" into the buttock and this was toward the lower part of the buttock could lead to problems with the pudendal nerve. I get burning sensation in both but mostly left buttock. Burnung pain, inner things, perinium and up my back passage, also backs of thighs and some times testicles. Worse when seated or standing. But painful all the time. Do you think a Pelvic PT is the right person to see? Only watched a couple of your videos but very impressed. Many thanks!
@PelvicHealth
@PelvicHealth Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are absolutely right to see a pelvic PT and a doctor. Surgeries to the lower buttock have the potential to cause pudendal nerve problems because of the location. If you report all these symptoms and your suspicion that the pudendal nerve is involved, then you and your PT and doctor should be able to solve this puzzle. If your providers are not familiar with your condition, reach out to us for a virtual appointment. Good luck on your healing journey.

These are the common components of an exam, but it will vary based on each individual. There are many things a PFPT can assess and teach without doing any manual work or having a patient undress. The treatment ideas will depend on the details of your case. When you do call, it's appropriate to ask what level of knowledge and comfort the therapist has with working with survivors of abuse and trauma. Let them know what you are and are not comfortable with, and how they can make you feel safe. If you have a talk therapist who helps you, ask them for ideas, too. If you don't feel ready to tackle this now, talk it through and revisit it when the time is right.

What can you do to help my husband who has ED with painful rectal exam? He will not allow anything up his rectum including a finger from a doctor.
@PelvicHealth
@PelvicHealth 11 ай бұрын
Your husband should make a visit with a pelvic health PT who sees male patients. Even if a rectal exam is not possible now, a visual pelvic exam can often help us get an idea of how the pelvic muscles are functioning. Exercises such as diaphragmatic breathing or stretches such as happy baby or child's pose can help the pelvic floor muscles more more effectively even without an internal exam. This can vary case to case and your husband should see a specialist who can work through this with him.

It sounds like he is struggling with some limitations beyond what we typically see, but there are often things that can be done to address the muscular side, even within structural limitations. Without evaluating him in person, we would be unable to tell how helpful PT may be. I would recommend making an appointment with a skilled pelvic health PT to see if this could be a helpful treatment for him. @@janetw9430

I had one treatment which included massaging around the vagina. Sex isn’t painful, but I have urgency, burning, pelvic pressure and irritation. I can’t eat certain foods or consume certain drinks. I’ve had four different bacterial strains and a yeast UTI. I’m so tired of this.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Often physical therapy takes more than one session to be effective so it may be worth sticking with it. It is also important to remember that many people may need additional services such as an integrative nutritionist, MD support, medication, and/or acupuncture to help with their symptoms. Hopefully your providers are helping you to build the right team!

ok , some men get embarrassed about things like this. I recently had to stay in the hospital and the worst things i could hear coming from a female nurse was, we've heard it all before, we seen it all before, if you seen one you seen them all. you can tell me im a professional or if i was really embarrassed dont be silly. imagine if a male doctor or nurse said that to a female patient. hard enough talking about problems to the opposite sex , but then they belittle you. thats why most men dont seek medical treatment. and the sad part is, they are to embarrassed to admit they are embarrassed.

As a pelvic floor physical therapist, we want to assure you that professionalism, respect and empathy are at the heart of our practice. It's important to remember that everyone has their own comfort levels when it comes to discussing health issues, especially those of a sensitive nature. It's absolutely okay to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. We acknowledge that these feelings are valid and we strive to create an environment where each patient feels safe and comfortable discussing their concerns. We are here to help, not to belittle anyone's fears or discomfort. Moreover, we want to stress that it's perfectly acceptable to request a healthcare provider of the same sex if that makes you more comfortable. (If you are able to depending on the clinic you are seen at). Our ultimate goal at our practice is to provide the best care possible and that includes respecting your preferences. Remember, seeking help for any health issue is a sign of strength, not weakness. We're here to support you every step of the way.

@@PelvicHealth you have to understand , that men dont seek medical treatment for this reason. female doctors and nurses wil say stuff like that. further more, a man knows when he goes to a doctors appointment, clinic appointment he will be met with females. female at check in, female nurse that takes vitals and ask him what brings him in today, and on top of all that . he better hope the doctor is a male if its a intimate issue . just one sentence from a female doctor, or nurse can make men never want to go back. so yeah, things like. we heard it all before, we seen it all before, you seen one you seen them all, dont be silly, im a professional. that can make men feel belittle and not want to seek medical treatment. oh yeah i almost forgot. with the way hospitals are now these days. if it turns out to be a female doctor, she brings in a chaperone or other female student doctors. makes me laugh, women can say what ever they want and if it demeaners a male patient . they can get away with it just by saying things like. we didnt mean to offend you, but if a male patient says something like that automatically disciplinary actions. in theses types of settings i find male doctors and nurses have more empathy towards male patients. you can respond with what ever you want but even you didnt realize by you saying "we heard it all before" is degrading.

That the provider has seen it all before. Don't make it any less embarrassing for the patient. The patient is in an extremely vulnerable situation where he has to answer questions about the most personal matters. Matters he may not even share with his wife. On top of that, he has to get naked so you can see and touch his genitals. I would suggest that the provider is also naked. It may make it less embarrassing and awkward for the patient.

@PelvicHealth
@PelvicHealth Жыл бұрын
Therapy is not intended to be arousing or sexual. Therapists are very professional and make an effort to keep people comfortable, but not aroused. That being said arousal is a natural state of being. Discussing this concern with your therapist could put you both at ease and help you come up with strategies to avoid uncomfortable situations.
