I, generally, use a ratcheting, interchangeable regular-sized screwdriver for the initial loosening of screws. Here's a link to the brand I use:

Get some additional, varying sizes Flathead and Phillips bits while you're at it.
The adjustable wrenches I use (instead of hex nut wrenches) are Husky, but these (with the red insert) work very well... 6-inch will be used the most:

Great video! I was given a 5500SS not working and your video (and email response to my questions) helped me get it all apart and fixed. I bought $25 worth of parts - spool shaft, anti-reverse lever, drag washers, etc. and now it looks good as new. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the video. Inherited a used 5500SS. First timer doing maintenance on a reel. Would appreciate specifics on how to identify worn parts needing replacement as you go thru your videos. How do you determine when to use grade versus oil?

Have you ever worked on the later version of this reel? I have a 5500SS that has the newer version of the anti-reverse dog which does not have the fingers and rides on a post which is held on by a C-clip. The dog spring is missing. The print is very unclear regarding what it looks like. And, it does not seem to be available anymore. Do you have any idea?

The bent (upwards) end of the spring fits in the groove on the dog. If you're still stuck, email me at tsgreelservice@gmail.com.

@@TSGReelService I have torn the reel apart and nothing seems wrong but the handle screws in too far and locks up against the housing when you reel it making it impossible after a few rotations to crank the handle anymore. Without the handle screwed in it works just fine. its as if the handle threads are going in too far. IDK? I can send a video if needed just let me know where to load it.

Thanks for the vid. I'm near 100% sure the trip lever (#28) at the bottom of your rotor is hitting against the gold bail trip ramp (28C) next to your pinion stack..... How do you fix it?..... could be a few reasons, but check to see if your trip lever is frozen or sluggish to rotate, or if the spring under it is damaged. If it's none of these things, then it becomes a little trickier.... could be bail wire, bail arm, inside support for bail arm, etc
