Once again i found your video very helpful not only have you saved me £35 a time for a service Now i have the confidence to strip down my reel like in the video and service it and even replace parts like i have just done a complete bail arm including bearings springs ect I did have one problem and that was the spool was given out line when i stop reeling in I think this could be down to the rotar body locking screw was not quite tight enough Also another problem i had when i assembled the reel was the handle would only turn counter clock wise(handle being on left side of reel) Quick strip down another check on your video then i realised i put the Clutch sleeve assembly back on the wrong way Now works fine 👍

This was an excellent video. Do you ever do vintage spinning reels such as Mitchell, Luxor, Peerless Bam, and DAM Quick? I do a few things different from you but that’s mainly because I only work on vintage reels as a hobby. I own about 215 reels in my collection most all of which are surf spinning reels manufactured before 1980. I found your video to be both concise and complete. I liked the attention you gave to the handles as that is often omitted from many fishing reel videos. Thank you for a job well done!

Thanks for checking out the video and your feedback. I do whatever comes in and if I have the chance to do it. I don't get many pre-1980 spinning reels though.

@@TSGReelService I looked at your library and you did do a Mitchell 302 once. I have 5 of them. I guess most of my reels are a bit obscure. I can’t use conventional reels fishing anymore because I am partially blind now. That’s why I only use spinning reels. Very few of my vintage reels are difficult but there are a few that are unusual or unique. They are mostly from Europe. Keep up the good work and excellent videos!

Ok I did everything you said the spool came out great, the problem I have now is when i spin the reel it's not smooth it's like something is off and you can feel a rough spot as it turns. Any ideas where I can start to look for a problem? Great Video BTW. Very precise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for watching and following the video. Glad to hear it helped you work through it. Two things for the change in the way your gear feels: 1) over time, gears "wear in".... so there may be a specific spot where the main and pinion gear meet that would feel better when cranking.... you can try lifting and rotating the main gear incrementally, closing the housing cover with a couple of screws, and then crank it to see what position feels best. 2) play with the number of shims on the main gear to see which number on there works best. Caveat with the above is the reel could have felt the way you're feeling for a long time, but you just noticed it now because you're focusing on the reel service. Think of marring/damage on a wall in your house that's been there for a few months, but you never saw before.... now, once you "notice" it, you can't not see it every time you pass by. If 1 and 2 above don't help, then your gears may have worn beyond 'fix-a-bility' and you need new ones.... this is doubtful, but still a possibility.

Thanks for the response. After further interrogation I think I need new bearings. Where do you purchase your parts? The place I use seems very expensive. Thank you again.
@TSGReelService
@TSGReelService 10 ай бұрын
@@ldb_srd.1886 You're welcome and no worries. Needing new bearings make sense, especially if the issue was there before and you just didn't notice it.... it'll can be the handle side bearing, the pinion bearing(s) or line roller bearing, so be sure to identify the one(s) you need. Regarding places to get bearings, you can try eBay for generic bearings.... you can find some cheap ones on there.... you just need the measurements of your bearings. You can also try fasteddy.com. All that being said, I use OEM bearings 95% of the time.... unless a customer wants different.

Is the washer and bearing supposed to easily come off the main gear? It didn’t show you taking it off and cannot figure out how to remove them from its place.
@TSGReelService
@TSGReelService 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes. If it's not, and you are replacing the bearing (meaning you don't need it), you can try using heat in conjunction with Corrosion X (or something similar) and work at pulling it off. If the gears and bearings are fine, leave it alone, but get some backups for down the road.
@stripmemaybe
@stripmemaybe 2 жыл бұрын
@@TSGReelService Hmm weird! I am only replacing the main gear and not the bearing or washer but it won’t slide off. Didn’t want to pry it off and damage it and thought I was missing a step. I’ll give that a shot!
