In this video Stef and I begin our trail run / walk recce of the Pennine Way. Over the coming months we plan to tackle this amazing route in sections using public transport as much as possible. We have both entered the Montane Spine Challenger in 2022 so we are attempting to familiarise ourselves as much as possible with the southern half. This first part takes us from Edale to Crowden over Kinder Scout and Bleaklow.

Dean . . . your posts are super magical for me. I walked the Pennine Way with my girlfriend (eventually to become my 1st wife) in the mid 80's. It was a life changing experience for us. I proposed to her on Mam Tor before we got into the actual walk. I love watching and hearing your narratives (audio and visual) but I can't help wondering as you yourself pass through walking / running / life partners . . .why they don't have a voice in these experiences. It would be so cool (and yes there would be way more editing and whatever else) to have both voices . . . both visuals . . . describing these extraordinary experiences. I'm grateful for all that you bring here dude. Seeing all the places you travel is SO powerfully reminding to me of how fortunate I have been. I just hope that somehow you can find your way into letting your partners move beyond being pretty anonymous chums . . . . .

Hi Steven, thanks for watching and for your kind words. My partner Stefanie has her own installment in the video I uploaded prior to this one. She was in New Zealand visiting her family and I edited a run she did into one we did together in Yorkshire. She will definitely feature more in the future though. All the best. Dean

I'm quite impressed with the stability of the footage, it looks pretty good. Fingers crossed the wind protector I've got will reduce the noise as that's annoying :-) I know you can't 100% eradicate it while videoing in the hills but my Sony camera does a good job with its protection. Hope you had a good day, it looked like a nice one out the window at work 😁👍 all the best Dean

Brilliant video Dean. Great start to another Pennine Way adventure. The weather was amazing! I have a lot more exploration to do in the Crowden area but we did the Langsett to Crow Stones route back in June in similar weather, which was inspired by your video and has the most epic views, just superb 😃. Could have stayed there all day. I am liking the subtle variations in your theme music in recent times too! Looking forward to the next section when you do it. ATB, Greg.

Thanks for watching Greg, we've done 2 parts so far and I'm really looking forward to getting out there again for a full weekend soon. Nicely spotted on the theme music. I haven't used this version for a while, it's from 2017. I have a few different songs that have evolved over the years but I've kept a couple of motifs constant in them all. Hope you continue to enjoy your exploration of the PW and the surrounding area 👍

Thanks Dean, I am looking forward to the next instalment 👍. I think your theme music is great, really like the sound mix and definitely the signature sound for your channel. I do play keys, usually on Nord or Yamaha Stage Pianos and sometimes use mainstage with various virtual instruments (Native Instruments patches etc) on a Mac for some live stuff and I still use Spectrasonics Omnisphere to come up with some synth patches but rarely have time to look at producing tracks at the moment. Something I’d like to learn how to do (well) when time allows!

Wind Slayer? Sounds like the name of a Superhero 😆. Great idea to section run the Pennine Way. Looks like you’ll get to experience the PW over various seasons doing it that way which should make it interesting. I’ve dusted off the running shoes and started to get back in to it. Would be good to eventually progress from road to trail running.

Out of interest. As someone who obviously knows ‘the glorious Peak District ‘ like the back of your hand, why do you need a Garmin to find your way around and tell you where to turn on those well tramped paths? The stabilisation on the GoPro looked pretty good btw.
@DeanRead
@DeanRead 3 жыл бұрын
Haha 🤣 I use the route on my Garmin as it allows me to pace myself by knowing the exact distance. Like you say, I probably do know the route like the back of my hand but it's good to have it on the watch. Plus.. I love data and stats while I'm running / walking. Thanks for watching 👍

@@DeanRead - Yes, I must confess, I haven’t tuned in for a while, as I’ve had some health issues that have seen me in and out of hospital for a couple of years. But I’ve always stayed subbed, in fact you were one of the very first channels I subbed too when I first joined KZfaq. When I saw the new lady, I must admit to thinking it was perhaps your daughter, but then seem to recall her name was Amy? I could be wrong there too? But she was still only a young lady when I last saw her out with you and quite some years ago….did she ever join the army, I seem to remember you mentioning she was showing an interest in doing so when she left school?
