She's naive, she's your typical popular high school girl trope, she was just unaware of the reality. I mean a waitress? That was her job, a waitress, she had her acting career but that didn't go anywhere. At least Christopher's acting career went well for him. He didn't quit because it didn't lead to nowhere, he was asked to leave because he's been doing it quite some time. Unlike Penny, Christopher had many acting roles, several hygiene, razor, and food commercials. He may not had a main role in TV shows but at least he appeared as a background character in them.

@michelb.5186
@michelb.5186 2 жыл бұрын
@@VindexSolis it's not literally 1 million to 1. For it to be one million to one, if we assume your number (1700), there would have to be 1.7 billion people interested in a career as an NFL player. Not only that but the number 1700 is incorrect, there are roughly 1700 players active on NFL rosters during the season (53 per team), however that's not accounting for practice squad for example, during preseason there are 90 players per team, which would make that number 2880. Plus, there is a very high rotation in the NFL, yes there are players that play over a decade in the league but that's not the norm, on average an NFL player's career lasts 3 season, most of the players are out of the league by their third season and there are hundreds of new players that enter through the draft every year. However, with that being said, I agree in the figurative connotation of the phrase that a person's chance to make it in the NFL is "a million to one," and I do agree that people should be made aware of that just like in the video Leonard made Penny aware of how low the chances of succeeding in Hollywood really are.

Actually, I think you can make a strong case for the fact that Penny is the most important character on the show. Every character that interacts with her comes out for the better. Sheldon learned to moderate his anit-social impulses and establish contact with others because of her. Raj got to the point of being able to talk to women without alcohol because of her acceptance of him as a trusted friend. Amy is clearly becoming more self-confident having Penny as a friend. Leonard has grown emotionally every season because of her. Just a thought...

+xntric49 Yes, she is a very important character but I'd say the main one is Leonard, it was him that got all these people together, he was friends with Howard and Raj, was roommates with Sheldon and he approached Penny. Sheldon is the Icon, Leonard the Glue and Penny the evolver? I dunno, something like that.
@alltaken678
@alltaken678 8 жыл бұрын
***** Yes, you're right, and there's no argument that Sheldon is the superstar. But here's my belief: A less funny Sheldon would just be a less funny Sheldon, but a miscast Penny would have made the whole thing fall apart. We have to believe she's hawt and way out of Leonard's league, but we also have to believe her life is a mess and that her eventual pairing with Leonard is realistic after all. She, and they, pull it off perfectly. Of course, I'm talking about the first six or seven seasons, not the seasons we're in now that are just stretching things out for more money. The show should have ended with a happy wedding for Leonard and Penny, and it should have ended two seasons ago.

I believe that you should always encourage people to follow their dreams and let the circumstances be the ones that judges if they're ready or not. It's better for them to realize these things on their own, not by someone's opinion, specially if that someone is special to them, their opinion means a lot and if you realize they don't believe in your dream it becomes more personal than objective.

Denics well that's true unless the person demands that you be honest with them. Penny demanded honesty, he gave it to her and she couldn't handle it. Truth hurts, what Leonard said was true and it was high time she heard it. If I can avoid disappointment by someone telling me the honest truth I will not be arrogant enough to write them off. Often times it's better to go to the school of instruction instead of the school of hard knocks. You need to know the pros and cons honestly of what you getting into before just jumping in head first. I'll support my significant other's decisions in anything and she knows that and she also know I will give my honest opinion and the pros and cons of it. She unlike Penny can handle the truth cause she knows it does not mean I don't support her or that she's incapable of doing it. Penny and Leonard still had some growing in their relationship to do in this time. Eventually Penny will learn Leonard supports her no matter what regardless.

I really think Penny is being unfair. I do think that Leonard messed up a little bit with what he said at 2:26 and any other unnecessary slips, but as far as his honest opinion goes, he's a smart guy, and Penny's odds are low. The belief that Penny wouldn't be a tv/movie star with awards is rational, and that opinion is probably the same with the other five in the group of friends. Was he supposed to lie? If yes, what would be the point of Penny asking that question if the only answer she would accept is yes. Also, is Leonard supposed to potentially have a negative effect on Penny's life decisions just to make her temporarily feel better?

I felt really bad for Penny in this episode and can actually relate somewhat. My sister and I were in an advert for our local library, they shot her in one scene and I was in several (nothing scripted, just us talking, reading, on the computer, etc.). We waited several months to see the final advert. When we finally saw it, my sister had been cut out completely and I barely made a cameo. We were both disappointed, but I felt worse for her. And sadly, Leonard is right about his honest opinion. He doesn't think Penny is talentless--on the contrary--but the truth is, it's very hard to be successful in life and get into careers like acting. It looks easy but the majority of people don't make it. It happens to a lot of talented people. Heck there are LOTS of talented people in acting who get little to no recognition or have short careers. It sucks but it's the reality :(

Actually I think Sheldon would have done a better job at consoling her. Leonard means well but ends up being socially awkward and saying the wrong thing whereas Sheldon is soucally awkward about it consoling people, doesnt know what to say but just happens to end up saying the right thing. And he was socially "trained" by penny as well. Ofc it could be that people expect him to mess up and not say the right thing so arent disappointed by what they hear, or they dont want to shout at him when he's trying to help because they see him as childlike and treat him like a kid. Or because they know its hard for him abd uncomfortable so appreciate more that he's trying

An ironic thing happened when that episode was filmed which Chuck Lorre talked about "in an after episode memoir thing, while filming that very episode there was a scene where Staurat and Raj we're supposed to be approached by a beautiful young woman asking for directions - played by Lexie Contursi - and they run off from her but they had to cut that scene to get the show down to the required run time

I always found it amusing how Penny made such a big deal about her mini-scene in Navy CIS that she even invited her friends over and her family in Nebraska invitied all of their relatives to watch the scene together. She would have been seen as an extra for only a few seconds but everyone acts like she played an important role in the show.

What Leonard says at the end that anyone making it as an actor/actress; the odds are a million-one. Yeah, but what about the people that do make it, sure some of them have to work and try really hard, but some who make it don't really have to try that hard sometimes, I mean some people who don't even have substantial experience make it, but then again, the effort in trying for the part is required and you always get accepted or rejected for a reason. The reason I'm saying this is because I've read about how some famous actors/actresses made it where they are today and where they started and for some of them; who didn't have a lot of experience in the business are more or less famous and successful to this day.

The problem is not what Leonard is saying but how he is saying. Yes, there is million to one chance for an person to become a successful actor or actress and it takes a huge amount of talent, hard work, sacrifice to do that. What Leonard said to Penny was logical and practical and to the point but, that's not what you say to the people when they are feeling low. Again it's not Leonard fault either cause he doesn't know all social norms and things people need to say each other in different situation. I feel sorry for both Leonard and Penny.

I'd say it has more to do with timing in this instance than anything. People tend to fall into 2 groups. WHAT to say and HOW to say. But there's more to it than that. 1. What you say 2. To whom you speak 3. Of whom you speak 4. How you say it 5. When you say it 6. Where you say it

I'm sorry penny didn't get the part she hoped for but guess what - that's life. i wanted to be classical violinist and travel the world. but I'm: in a dead end job, hardly have any friends, most of my family don't talk to me/involve me in their lives/think I'm stupid, struggling with infertility, overweight, I've got a seizure condition, type 2 diabetes...the list goes on. you get my point: life's full of disappointments. you gotta pick up the pieces and move on. i know, easier said than done but life is tough. penny's got potential, a nice hard-working boyfriend who truly cares for her, close friends, she's attractive (in a nice way), and she's smart to an extent. penny needs to get her whiny, selfish butt off the couch and open her eyes to what she's already got.

There's just one thing that I find extremely odd. Why didn't penny pick up on the idea of going to ComiCon with the guys. After all it would give her a chance to act a role in costume and meet with television celebrities directors writers and talent agents. Just one of those things that just raises a few questions particularly why wasn't it explored.

From what I heard, it’s a combo of luck + skill. Being talented isn’t enough; it’s also a matter of being in the right place at the right time. And there’s a **WIDE** variety of reasons why scenes get cut. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re a bad actor, sometimes the people in charge feel like the scene wasn’t necessary. Which, for actors trying to get their foot in the door (get noticed), can make them feel like they got screwed over. Which sucks, but it happens.

while i think leonard was wrong in how he tried to ‘comfort’ penny, i also think she was a little too harsh on him. i mean, she did ask for his honest opinion and then chatsised him for giving his honest opinion. but at the same time, leonard was a little harsh with his lack of belief in her. it can be tricky with managing being a supportive partner/friend towards someone trying to follow their dreams that might be a one in a million chance, but the way leonard reacted was like kicking penny when she was already down.

I really feel bad for Penny here and what Leonard said just made things worse. Just because Penny got cut out of an episode of CSI doesn't mean that it's the end. Lisa Kudrow got fired from Frasier and then got to be on Friends and, despite Leonard's scoffing, a guest role could lead to bigger things. The guy that played Miles on Lost got the job because of a guest starring role in the Sopranos. Yet, at the same time, I think Leonard said what he said because, deep down, he doesn't want Penny to become a famous actress because he's afraid that he'll leave her if she does. I'd also like to note that, despite Penny being the character least successful with her dream job in the show, Kaley Cuoco (sp?) is actually the most successful in her career out of all of the actors on the show.

I am not with Leonard for obvious reasons. He said Penny just got 3 lines anyway... what?? Is that something you're supposed to say to someone so close to you who has been struggling for 7 years to land even just a single scene in a TV show? Leonard was there from 1st episode and he knew how Penny wanted that shot! Whether Penny is naive or not talented enough, it doesn't matter - that is not the point. The point is he knew how difficult the journey was for Penny and how excited she was to just have those 3 lines in one episode of that show and to show that to his friends and family. Whether 3 lines or 1 line, it's a strand of hope for her and what did he do? He just shoved it out of sight like nothing. "Ahhh those are just 3 lines, you're not as talented as the other hopeful actresses anyway." Wow, what a douche.
