I like the idea of finding a small phrase within a pattern and then finding ways to play the same phrase inside the other scale shapes all over the neck. I love these short lessons Corey - thanks and keep them coming please 👍🏻

This young man is a creative beast. I mean look what he conjures up with the classic pentatonic. Groove. Emotion. Soul. Conversation. And while a have always been enthralled by the inherent beauty of the pentatonic, I should be half as musical as this kid. Right on, Corey!

I'm 49. I started playing in the 4th grade. When I was about 13, an older teenager at the store I was taking lessons was bashing the pentatonic. As a result, I never learned it until I was in my late 20's when I came across pentatonic applications in jazz. Crazy how influenced one can be. Had I not had that experience, I would be 10000X of a better player.

The pentatonic scale is like the wall framework of a house. Much like chords are the foundation. You use a different scale when you need to add a window and another different scale when you need to add a door. Then there are different versions of the windows and doors. But, once the window or door has been added, you come back to the wall.

Only one person so far is so mad at the fact that they can NOT grow such a fine example of super stud mustache! Even Magnum PI has to shed a tear knowing full well that Corey Congilio has out done him! And that is just a drop in the bucket compared to what this man and his hands can do with a guitar!.. I may never grow such a Man Stache such as Corey Congilio ( just saying his name has a nice ring to it) but at least I have a life time to catch up with him on guitar!.. Check him out!.. I agree with Corey that the pentatonic scale should not be dissed. I've heard plenty of George Benson and Wes Montgomery solos where a high percentage of what they played was based on pentatonic tonalities. It's true that these are -- or were, in the case of Wes -- supremely talented players (unlike the rest of us) with great ears and musical imaginations and an endless ability to invent new phrases, but still, I hear mostly pentatonic-based sounds in a lot of their playing.
