How viable is stability mode in AF.C as a set once and shoot setting for both moving and static subjects? Well, in this video, I fired up the Mark III and left it in AF.C Stability mode and shot both moving and static subjects to find out. So how did it do? Watch and see!

Have always used AFC spot focus. For the past 5years. Even with static birds, wildlife there are so many other factors, wind, head turn , etc. Etc. Etc.

Kobie I shoot a fair amount of birds I use user modes to to change my focus modes mode 1 single focus mode 2 AFC TAV for birds in flight mode 3 AFS small Next month I am going in for open heart surgery I have Constrictive Pericarditis which will take surgery to correct the problem

I have been working with back button focus on my Pentax KP exclusively, always keeping the camera set to AF.C. If I want the focus to stay static, I can shoot after initially focusing as if it was AFS, so I never had to change the settings in years.

So for the guys in the slow class, what were the shooting setting other than AFC , Stability, I miss so many shots because I always have one or more of the settings wrong and don't realize it until too damn late.

Type 2, Sel S/M or L.

Key Kobie! Another great video. Next time, turn your video equipment 180°. If the background is going to be a parking lot, so be it. You missed a lot of action talking to us! I've been using AFS back button focusing for everything, fearing I'll miss a shot. This video calms those fears. I suppose one reason I use AFS all the time is to minimize wear and tear on the focusing mechanism.

@gajdet It wouldn't really matter. It's an unfortunate thing when doing video and shooting at the same time. You can't focus 100% on both simultaneously. Plus, with my luck, the birds would have just done the same thing but from the other direction lol.

I’m still working out focus modes etc, this recent content is very timely. Do you still use the 1.4x with the 150-450 regularly, or are you shooting without it mostly now?

It depends. I haven't needed the extra reach recently so I haven't used the 1.4x on the 150-450 for a while.

@@KobieMC I hear that, I find (of course) that motion is amplified with that combo at the long end, so I use the monopod or beanbag more. Or else I lose sharpness not so much because of the optics, but just from breathing, heartbeat and biology (ie I’m a human) type factors
