I've never heard of cutting off lashes when using the lash serum, you just paint it on lashes, and it doesn't work for everyone (it was discovered in eyedrops as a 'side affect', so they extract that bit) and it just extends the 'life-span' of the lash, so it grows longer in that extended period, but eventually drops out and can look patchy if too many drop out at the same time... and some serums work, some don't and some people aren't affected by it at all, it just does nothing for them (and of course, there's plenty of fake serums on the market!) 😊

@@melissaneal3808 Thanks. I've been in remission for years now, don't even have to have check ups anymore, just blood tests every six months, which is great, when it used to be every two weeks, then monthly. With Lymphomas and Leukaemia we never get to say that we are 'cured' as it could come back any time, but long term remission is the ultimate goal, and I've been in remission for 20 years. I'm considered a success case ;)

The person complaining about their "spider lashes" just needed to not add mascara to their bottom lash

RIGHT? Just don't emphasize what you don't like. It's that simple. I have long under eye/lower lashes. I don't hit them heavily with mascara because it looks weird to me, a bit unbalanced. But if I choose to have long lower lashes I can Twiggy them out, do a Fab 60s style if I like. It's all about choices. Why would they take away their own choices?

There’s a difference between “caring about the safety and well-being of the public” and “preventing natural selection from taking course.” You only have to do the first one once. The latter comes from purposely ignoring the first (or refusal to learn)- let it happen. There’s too many of us anyways.

@@romanyhosier9133 yes, strongly. The supplements and meds used to help -manias actually work by managing OCD symptoms that lead to destructive behavior. Both humans and animals typically develop OCD symptoms first, and that evolves into a stress coping/self soothing mechanism in the form of a -mania. OCD in animals is frustrating, most people don't realize it's a sign of distress and think obsessive compulsive behaviors are cute. Only humans see their cat losing their grip on sanity and are like "ooh this will make a great TikTok". Then again we downplay mental illness in everyone, all the time 😢

To the people that do this because they don’t like the presence of the lashes; cutting them off will actually make them visually more noticeable. It’s like having eyebrows, you don’t notice when they’re there but you will notice when they aren’t. We are used to seeing bottom lashes on people. So instead of detracting focus from your bottom lashes, cutting them off will make people notice that something’s going on in that area; thus putting more focus onto your bottom lashline.

Like you said, eyelashes and eyebrows are there for a reason. They serve an actual purpose, they keep sweat and things out of your eyes 😭 WHY would people do that? Not to mention, what if your hand slips and you cut your eye with the scissors? What if you cut your eyelid on accident? The eyes are so fragile and it’s an incredibly vascular area. Part of body dysmorphia. So many young people especially, have this condition. Unfortunately, with so many of them addicted to social media, the influence from these platforms tends to outweigh common sense. I don’t know if anyone or anything can stop this trend. As someone who spends money for serums to make my lashes continue to grow, I just don’t understand this trend. I only hope these young people wake up before it’s too late.

So I noticed when you demonstrated that it basically looks uncanny because you removed all the shadowing that makes an eyeball look like an eyeball. People hate undereye bags, but a little bit of darker shape under there is what makes our eyes look like eyes. As an artist, not of the makeup variety, it really drilled in how important it is for a drawing of a human face to have some lines marking the eyesocket underneath. Any eye shape at all can be made to look more realistic and more polished artistically with a little extra lining or shadowing.

The reason hairstylists recommend getting regular trims to help your hair look healthier and grow longer is because the ends of your hair start to fray and split, and if you don't trim those parts they spread and cause breakage. Your eyelashes don't generally last long enough for that to happen, so all you're doing when you cut them is making them look blunt and weird!

I did cut off the lashes on one of my eyes ages ago, I did it because they were naturally long. One of the WORST things I've done to myself beauty wise. The stubs that were left gave me discomfort when sleeping for like a month... they also grew back a lot more downturned; before they were pretty straight. Yeah, I'll never do that again.
@alexia3552
@alexia3552 7 ай бұрын
I’m curious, what if you tried using an eyelash curler (and maybe clear eyelash gel to hold them in place) every day for a few months, to try to train the curl in a new shape..? My layman’s guess is that the lashes were holding themselves in that straighter shape and training the shape of the new growth lashes, and now if they’ve all got a slight downturn, there are no other lashes to put pressure on them to grow straighter. Kinda like how your hair can get wavy if you sleep in braids? Also use the lash curler before bed (just no product). This is fully an experiment, I can’t vouch for this 100% working, but if the lashes really bother you it might be worth a shot =)

This reminds me of cuticle cutting. Numerous dermatologists have said that is a terrible idea and shown pictures of nasty infections caused by that, yet nail people still insist on doing it. Maybe they don't understand or maybe they're just doing it to make their acrylic nails last longer without showing at the bottom. I have never done anything to my cuticles and I have lovely, healthy nails. Would be good to see you do a video on that, and hopefully dissuade some younger people from doing it.

This brought up memories of Halloween 2000. I was 8 and decided to go as a clown. I bought a makeup kit that had these super pretty rainbow foil lashes. I read the instructions on how to put them on, but I totally misunderstood it. It said something like "Trim lashes starting at the outer corner if they are too long and they'll fit better" My dumb ass was like "Well, I don't think my eyelashes are too long to wear these, but they don't fit well at all, so I'll just trim my lashes. I took some scissors and cut off the left corner of my own lashes, then to the other eye. Then I tried putting on the lashes again. Didn't work and I immediately realized what I did wrong. I told no one and no one ever noticed that I didn't have half of my eyelashes for a while.

Not only is the sensation especially irritating, but my eyelashes would also paint the inside of my glasses with oil/ mascara, which meant I'd have to clean my glasses constantly. I was SO annoyed by all this that in a fit of desperation, I did trim my eyelashes. It looked weird. Now I just curl them to death with a eyelashe curler heated up with a blow dryer and some waterproof mascara. It seems to work about 85% of the time.

surely the idea of "if i cut them they'll grow stronger" comes from the fact that hair on our faces and body looks like it grows back stronger because cutting leaves the hair ends at full width and when they grow out it looks thick because there is none of the usual thinning-out at the end of each hair that happens after some time when the hair is exposed to air, water, clothes etc. a good way to see that happen is when you look at the face of a person without strong beard-growth, you see that they have peach-fuzz on their cheeks. it basically gets worn off by just existing and so it becomes soft and thin in the end. when you look at someone who shaves and who's hair grows back, you can see the cut-across ends that appear thick because they haven't had the time to get worn off and thin out the same way. however i just don't think that's how lashes grow because they just fall out after reaching their length, making space for another lash that grows from the beginning, instead of growing on and on once you've cut them. so you can't get the effect of the lashes appearing thicker once they grow out, because...they don't grow out.
