Mogilny deserves to be in there…paving the way for future Russian stars.Happy to see hank in there though

There is a legend of Mogilny coming to the US. A Finn, Christian Ruuttu, was picking up / driving Mogilny around the Buffalo in the first days. Or even the first day. Mogilny was really scared about getting caught by Russians and being brought back to the USSR, he was really quiet and jumpy. They wanted to get something to eat before going to hotel, but no one had any cash with them, so they headed to an ATM. Mogilny was curious about what was happening, he didn't really speak english yet, was lurking behind when withdraw was made. When he saw what happened he sparked joy and said "America, great country, money from the wall!" Not sure how true the story is, can't even remember where I heard it, but it is such a great one that I have been telling it forward. Mogilny definately deserves a spot in the HHOF.

I really hope we get to see Pavel Datsyuk inducted into the hall of fame as the best stick handler and pickpocket in the NHL

2:50 Defensive stalwarts. Claude Provost won nine Stanley Cups with Montreal in the six team era and isn’t in the HHOF. Playing night after night against Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe, Frank Mahovlich as a defensive forward deserves recognition.

I had season tickets when Mogilny was in Vancouver. He was so much fun to watch. He was a great offensive player as well as being a reliable defender. But one thing I noticed was how strong and solid on his skates that he was. Hard to knock off the puck and delivered some pretty solid hits. He was one of the first I remember seeing using the reverse hit when he had the puck. He definitely deserves being in the HHOF.

I hung out, briefly, with Alex. Used to be a bar on Main street called "The New Pink". The owner also owned or was affiliated with the "Pink Flamingo" (now 223 Allen) down in Allentown. Anyhow, he was next to my group of friends when I bought some shots and asked him if he wanted anything. Got him a beer, talked for a bit, and hung out that night there at the bar shooting the shit. He smoked like a chimney. Wound up making plans to meet him out the week after at another club on Chippewa. After that, he had to get back into training and lost touch. Good guy, great fucking player. Those days with Lafontaine were something special.

YES, Brind'Amour should be in the Hall of Fame. One of his era's premier defensive, shutdown, and penalty-killing forwards who also amassed close to 1,200 career points, 56 of them shorthanded. A warrior in the postseason, a player who consistently made his teams significantly better than they otherwise would have been. The people saying he doesn't belong apparently do not have a good sense of history behind the Hall of Fame and the kinds of players that have been inducted in the past as a standard (e.g. Dave Keon, George Armstrong, Jacques Lemaire).

The hhof have horrible standards especially when there are issues like mogilny. Triple crown member instant hall of famer and the fact that brindamour won back to back selkes and not to mention the Stanley cup is despicable. Mogilny is baffling

Mogilny is an incredibly important figure in the history of hockey. He paved the way for Soviet/Russian players. Even his story of escaping the Soviet Union alone should be enough to solidify his spot. With that said, Mike Vernon was a beast. He led 2 teams to the Stanley Cup.

Tom Barrasso deserved to be in the HHOF. This guy did the unprecedented as an 18-year-old kid that won the Vezina trophy and he was a playoff performer with the Penguins especially with those two cups he and his team won in 1991 and 1992, plus he was one of the best American goalies at the time. Mike Vernon was a stud during his heyday and was an excellent playoff performer with the 1986 Flames, 1989 Flames, and the 1997 Red Wings while being a small guy. Pierre Turgeon deserved the hockey hall of fame for his incredible skill play and team impact, but his potential greater heights was ruined by Dale Hunter's cheap shot. King Henrik is a stud that deserved the hall of fame being the Rangers' main netminder for many years, wins at least 30 games consistently, and a strong playoff performer. Alexander Mogilny is a stud as well and made his own name in the NHL. Politics ruin everything in hockey, not going to lie. JR and Mogilny are both studs, but I guess that Bettman had a beef with JR while both guys are Americans. I could be wrong on the JR part, but the Mogilny snub is definitely not cool. Hopefully, JR and Mogilny will have their opportunity to be inducted in the HHOF. My former Canadian math professor in grad school high-fived me for knowing about Alexander Mogilny and I've brought up the 2002 Maple Leafs with him. I drew the Maple Leafs logo on my final exam (my first attempt failed and I messed up on the first exam bad and he commented on my awful drawing), and it was drawn nicely, and I made a comeback to honor Mogilny and the blue maples team, passing the advanced linear algebra class. I'm probably the guy in that class that knew about Mogilny and the Maple Leafs given that almost all of my classmates don't watch hockey or any sports. But seriously, Mogilny deserves the nod for the hall of fame and his skills and impact really shows. Overall, the Hockey Hall of Fame have the right choices, but snubbing Mogilny is not.

For Rods ballet we need to include some of his coaching stats which will one day should be a major factor in his career and chance to go in the hall of fame

Brind'Amour should be in the hall for the 2006 Cup presentation alone. Ripping the cup out of Gary's hands before he could get a picture. 11/10 stuff

After Mogilny, the next biggest snub for me was Curtis Joseph. He was one of the best goalies of his era and made every team he was with better. I personally consider him to be better than Osgood and Vernon. It's sad that he has had to wait this long to get in along with Mogilny. I don't buy the anti-Russian bias for leaving him out because next year Pavel Datsyuk will be eligible and the voters will be falling all over themselves getting his name on their ballot. I saw both Mogilny and Turgeon play for their entire careers. I say that Mogilny was a lot better player.

JR should definitely be in the hall of fame. I mean he shattered his jaw twice and didn't quit hockey. Not to mention everything else. Brindmore should also be in there as well. One hell of a player. And a pretty good coach as well. Maybe I'm just biased as a flyers fan

Barasso and Vernon are definitely deserving, as you said, but it’s mind blowing that Mogilny continues to be snubbed year after year.

I think every once in a while you'll see a weird year to catch up on some guys who should have been in but kept getting bumped for the new candidates.

There is definitely an anti-Russian bias that should only be directed towards their government. Not right to treat hockey players and regular people with less respect.

People are always pissed off at the HHOF selections every year because player X was snubbed in favor of player Y.

I personally would've done Hank, Brind'Amour, Cujo and Mogilny. Barrasso over Cujo, and even Vernon over him, I don't mind even though I may disagree with the decision. Rod the Bod left out isn't so bad. But Turgeon over Mogilny is really what bothers me.

I've seen both Turgeon and Mogilny play, and you can count me among those who would have picked Mogilny if given the choice. He was the most dominant of the two, and would have easily scored 500 goals as well if it hadn't been for the lockouts.

Mogilny is one of only 7 guys all time to have scored over 1000 pts in faster than 1000 games and still NOT be in the HHOF. Buddy scored 76 goals in a season and was a force to be reckoned with in his prime. He deserves to be in the hall without a doubt. Thats not good enough to get in supposedly but a career 3.24GAA and .892 for Barrasso is? make it make sense.

Tom Barasso and Mike Vernon we’re Iron Men and while easily forgotten in regards to hall of fame they were know by all hokey fans. I watch hockey religiously, and I couldn’t name 10 current goaltenders even my own goalies names can slipped my mind at times because nobody has been that impressive for a long, long time. One can definitely argue the fact that goalscoring has become a big part of real changes as well as Trying to increase pace of play which makes it more exciting and more likely that an error can be made for the opposite team to take advantage of so there’s lots of reasons why goaltenders of the past may have appeared to be ridiculous but the 90s goaltender arrow was a crazy era for goaltending on top of all the expansion teams that came in over a 15 year. Around that time frame lots of new goalies were needed that may not have ever been much if they hadn’t had extra teams to need a primary goalie on. That was right around the time that some of the team started to play with having to quality goaltenders And now it’s very common for teams to have two extremely good goaltenders. Are used to be that you only had one goalie that played in 90% of the games throughout the year and another goalie that basically played almost never. In one of your other videos, mentions Chelios playing for something like 50 years. Well, these two goaltenders might not have had as many seasons under their belt when they retired as Chelios, but they weren’t that far off either. Thinking of goaltenders at that time in history. Wow goalies were pretty cool back then. but I’m not even looking this is just memory from that part of history, Dominik Hasek, John Vanbiesbrouck, Felix Potvin, Mike Vernon, Kelly Hrudey, Patrick Roy, ed Belfour, Ron Hextall, grant Fuhr, Martin Brodeur Curtis Joseph, mike Richter, Shawn Burke, Trevor kid, Chris Osgood, Ron, Tugnutt, Kirk McLean Andy Moog, Bill Ranford, Arthur Irbe. I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting and that just covers the 90s. Yes some of these were definitely ending their career in the early 90s and some of these were barely starting their careers and some were in their prime but all in all, I can barely remember the names of that many goaltenders from the new millennium of any era, but I remember watching every goalie. I mentioned above play amazing hockey, many times, and do moves that now would probably get them suspended for a season lolol the problem is many of these goalies are already in the Hall of Fame and all of these goalies had ridiculous statistics the best of these to the worst of these we’re not that far separated obviously some like Hasek, Brodeur, and Roy where are some of the best goaltenders in all of the hockey history, but the rest of the list probably had statistics that were almost identical. Vernon and Barrasso , Borrasso probably had some of the worst statistics out of the entire list, but he did win back to back Stanley cubs when Mario Lemieux was at his prime and Pittsburgh had a dynasty being the lead goaltender of a dynasty kind of guarantees a Hall of Fame position eventually, once they run out of goaltenders with all of the statistics and accolades from that era.

When I played hockey as a kid my coach had us get community hours by working at the hockey hall of fame . Totally picked up the cup as we had to be there before it opened maybe not the real one but whatever 👍👍👍👍💯

They need to add more goalies, the HHOF under inducts goalies generally and goalies like Cujo deserve to be in the hall.

One argument that I have seen floated around is putting players in the HOF that havent played in 20 plus years that causes younger players to wait even longer because the committee felt like they needed to right a wrong or even with the recent selection of Pierre Lacroix who passed away in 2020. It honestly feels like there should be a ten of fifteen year window to be eligible to get in the HHOF. I add the fact the committee once again only picked one female player once again when two could be picked is just a middle finger to woman's hockey all around and in my eyes further points to your thoughts of the committee being a old boys club.

I'd like to see a list of players that Lundquist gave up a player's first NHL goal to. I swear every week we'd see someone get their first against him. That and if he hadn't taken Kevin Weeks' starting job we wouldn't have Weeks' illustrious media career. LOL

Mogilny was a big reason why I choose the Leafs as my team than Cujo and his wolf mask made me want to be a goalie; before that we had Ray Bourque and the Avalanche winning the cup. 00-01

I agree specially since Mike Richter keeps being snubbed after beating The Mighty Team Canada at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, arent credentials include winning the cup people forget that without his stopping of Pavel Bure's penalty shootout in Game 6 of 1994 Cup Finals Finals and i guess since after winning the Cup in 94 to help beat a formidable Team Canada in the 96 world cup of Hockey i guess the Hall of Fame would rather Forget that event and erase Mike Richter from memory

Overall, it's an average HOF class. The only inductee I question is Mike Vernon. Everyone is quick to note he "won" two Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe, but so do many average players. A Conn Smythe doesn't make a player a Hall of Famer to begin with; moreover, Vernon's was debatable. During that run in 1997, he was actually outplayed in two--arguably all three--series leading up to the Finals, despite the Wings coming out on the winning end. (The Conn Smythe probably should have gone to Fedorov, IMO.) He was still great, and was great in '89 as well, but in both cases, he had a highly loaded team in front of him. Most of the games his teams won with him in net were due to offense, not giving up a lot of shots, or both. In other words, he wasn't really the difference between winning and losing most of the time.

As a Devils fan I'll admit I'm biased towards Mogilny and Elias...how Mogilny isn't in the HHOF is beyond me...I understand that Elias didn't have mindblowing offensive numbers but skillwise he was elite for well over a decade and played in a defensive first system...he likely would've been a top tier scorer in almost any other system...no problem at all with Henrik getting in as a first ballot HOFer as he was one of the best goaltenders of the last 20 years...not to say that Vernon and Barrasso aren't deserving but sorry under no circumstances would I listen to a case of them making it over Mogilny, Elias, Brind'Amour and Roenick

The HHoF starts to seem like the All-Star game for how seriously it should be considered. That's in reference to some very notable players that have been excluded from induction while having the credentials of a good fit in the HoF.

Mogilny should absolutely be in the hall - at this point, his exclusion is a clear snub, and while I think he will get in, the fact that he hasn't yet is really an injustice. There was a time when he was probably the most feared winger in the league - a lethal combination of incredible skating ability, speed, terrific hands, and an amazing wrist shot. Combine that with the way he put the initial cracks in the Iron Curtain that Soviet players faced by defecting to play here and you have a clear Hall of Fame-worthy case for him. He'll get in, but his wait time has been silly and unwarranted.

There is another player that deserves to be in the HHOF & that is Keith Tkachuk. He has over 500 goals & was a tough competitor.

Vernon and Barrasso deserve it. They were both cup winning and cup contending goalies who dominated the sport for a time. Roenick just pissed too many people off but he deserves it as well. Lundqvist doesn't deserve it if the others don't. He won a vezina and had great regular seasons but he wasn't a cup goalie. He never won anything. I agree Brind'Amour was a big part of hockey for a long time and he won a cup at the end of a long and great career and should be there.

For overall career, Mogilny had a longer, more productive career than Pavel Bure and was at least equal to Sergei Federov. And he was WAAAY better than both Turgeons combined. That is a serious omission on the HOFs part.

I think the individual hardware excuse is kinda bs honestly. Look at someone Jere Lehtinen. He wasn't a points guy at all BUT he was absolutely one of the best two way forwards in the game during his time with Dallas. He won the Selke 3 times and won the cup with the Stars as well. His number was retired by Dallas and he was also inducted into IIHF Hall of fame. The only Gold medal he has won is at the 95 World Ice Hockey Championships, he has still won a boat ton of other medals as was representing Team Finland. He 100% is a hall of famer yet 13 years later, no nods as far as I know.

I will tell you this. Many many years ago when he was a Leaf. He was caught sleeping with Shane Corsons wife. He was accosted by Darcy Tucker and eventually lost all his friends on that team. Including Gartner. However many other teams have said no one like him but he is talented.

Brind'amore was was a good player, and some years a really good player, he's not a great player though. His numbers are a little above average, but nothing overly special. He was just a good solid player with a long career. I think he's one of those guys who falls short of being a HOF'er.

The reason Mogilny hasn’t been inducted is because there’s a good chance he wouldn’t show up for the ceremony. He is very modest when it comes to receiving awards and thinks it’s a hassle, refused to show up and accept the Lady Byng and did not show up for the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, and the NHL wants to avoid the embarrassment of inducting someone who would probably not show up for it. He was my dad’s favourite player and one of mine too. I don’t think he will ever be inducted but people will recognize his greatness anyway.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is approaching the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame status by snubbing Jeremy Roenick.

I'm old enough to remember when there were no Russians in the NHL. There is almost no doubt that the Russian presence has raised the level of play in the NHL, but boy, those old Red Army or Czech games against Canada in international competition were really special.

Mogilny way over due, Roenick it's his mouth keeping him out, speaks his mind (good or bad) and the NHL can't have that. I agree so many others deserve to be there based on stats and the hall is getting to political.

Nothing surprises me with the HHOF. The fact that Rick Middleton is not in and Paul Kariya is in when they have almost identical stats, the exception being Kariya played on a Team that won the Stanley and Middleton did not although Middleton was on a Team that won the Canada Cup (when it actually meant something). CuJo is better than both Vernon and Barasso. There is a fair case against Turgeon. JR is the next guy with the most points, and I would say he doesn’t make the cut for me. Kevin Lowe doesn’t belong for me. Brind’amour doesn’t make it for me either. I would have picked Mogilny, CuJo, Elias (but I’m biased there) as the other 3.
