7. SOUNDBITE (English) Eli Lev, Tel Aviv resident:
“I think that Hamas don’t want to release the hostages, I think that even if Netanyahu signed an agreement and we leave Gaza, Hamas will find excuses, it will say 'we cannot find this guy, this guy was dead', and this guy...and I don’t believe that they will free all the hostages, that’s it. And I support Netanyahu in that way.”

“We were are all surprised about what the prime minister said yesterday evening. We still believe that getting back 120 hostages is the most important, critical, time-sensitive objective of the prime minister and his government. And we'd like to understand why the prime minister needed to come out with that statement, especially in these critical days where all of the international pressure was put on Hamas to say yes to a deal that President Biden talked about and was approved by the Israeli war Cabinet.”

STORYLINE:
Some Tel Aviv residents on Monday reacted to televised comments made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu around a “partial” cease-fire deal with Hamas.
The viability of a U.S.-backed proposal to wind down the 8-month-long war in Gaza was cast into doubt after Netanyahu said he would only be willing to agree to a “partial” cease-fire deal that would not end the war.
“We were are all surprised about what the prime minister said yesterday evening, we still believe that getting back 120 hostages is the most important, critical, time-sensitive objective of the prime minister and his government,” said Ruby Chen, whose son Itay was killed in Hamas’ attack on Oct. 7. His body is still being held in Gaza.
In an interview broadcast late Sunday on Israeli Channel 14, a conservative, pro-Netanyahu station, the Israeli leader said he was “prepared to make a partial deal -- this is no secret - that will return to us some of the people,” referring to the roughly 120 hostages still held in the Gaza Strip.
“But we are committed to continuing the war after a pause, in order to complete the goal of eliminating Hamas. I’m not willing to give up on that.”
