Based on my little understanding of Christopher Columbus and the HP movies, I think he only directed the first two because the following films were a lot darker, and he added a child-like edge to the ones he directed. And I think the PJ series is more teen-ish than childish from the get-go. But IDK haha. Cool video!

I think it's difficult to make a young adult movie with characters in their early teens, plus by then the Harry Potter films had the characters as young adults, so it seems like the PJ films were definitely trying to ride on that vibe.

Ok so, this video was randomly suggested to me, and it looks quite well done, but I disagree on some points: I actually like that the characters were aged up, child actors are cringey most of the times (the actors in HP are better than most, but even them in the first couple of movies are hard to watch at times), and considering that in the books real world elements go on the back burner more often than not, it doesn't make a big change if the prophecy says 16 or 20 years old (in my opinion). The other aspect that is problematic (for me) is the "disneyfication" of Greek mythology: I'm already not a huge fan of the way Riordan presents Greek myths (and I'm not talking about glossing over the more... Unsavory parts, I'm talking about the weird partial americanization of these characters), but the movies seem to be heavily inspired from that mess that is Disney's Hercules. Between Dionisus' Jesus joke in the second and the Hades is Hell thing in the first one (both of which are movie only details), it looks like the script writers were either trying to push their religious views, or worried to offend the same religious nuts that wanted to burn HP books because they 'promote witchcraft'. On that note I think the problem overall was with the script writing rather than with the director, who can be as good as you like, same with the actors, but if the script is mediocre at best the movie will come out poor

You make a good point. I always felt that so much deviation from the source material made it really hard to catch on with fans, however people who have a casual understanding of greek mythology might’ve still liked it.

I hated the actor for Percy. He was AT LEAST 6 years too old for the role. I could never suspend disbelief
