When Presence first came out, a lot of Zep fans back from the beginning panned the album. Heck, they were getting panned from all directions, not the least of which was Rolling Stone magazine. I didn't really "discover" them until 1975, so I had this insatiable thirst for anything Led Zeppelin did. I thought Presence was masterful myself, and the thrill of hearing Nobodys Fault on the radio made it one of my first of many favorite Led Zeppelin songs!

@@amandastone7434 All the main instruments are featured prominently in Levee. The guitar work is great as always, but Plant's harmonica and the drum beat really stand out. Jimmy's layering in the studio is also brilliant (again, as always).

I just wished they gave credit to the artists who they derived songs from, like this one. Technically first recorded in 1927 and credited to Blind Willie Johnson, but only to Page and Plant on the record, it would have served them better that at least they should have gave an inspiration credit to Johnson. Led Zep had a bad habit of doing this; there are at least 25 songs of theirs that can be traced to other artists, many of which they were sued and settled over.
@stormy8207
@stormy8207 Жыл бұрын
@@jamesscully529 That is probably true and it is unfortunate. They should have been more vigorous in accreditation. On the other hand, what they take is an idea because what they do with it completely transforms the original. Plant was somewhat of a musical historian, fascinated by all kinds of stuff. Many modern musicians sample their music so turn around comes around I guess. And if they hadn't done these covers we would have missed out on a number of masterpieces. But that does not excuse their neglect.

I am so glad that younger generations are discoverying Led Zeppelin. Quality music should never disapear. Too young meself, I discovered them in the early 80ties. I see a lot of great artists on the wall behind you, that makes me happy. It all started from the blues and Jazz with giants like Coltrain B.B. King and Muddy Waters. Led Zeppeling was also inspired with this particular song by Blind Willie Johnson. Cheers from Switzerland!

This is a cover of on an old Blind Willie Johnson blues song, adapted by Led Zeppelin. I believe they used distortion on that harmonica much in the same way they did on When the Levee Breaks. Try "When The Levee Breaks" and "You Shook Me" for some more great Robert Plant harmonica. Also; Bring it On Home Black Country Woman Custard Pie ...and one or two others. Mothership is a "best of" album released in 2007. Nobody's Fault is from Presence, Whole Lotta Love is from Zeppelin II, and Stairway to Heaven is from Zeppelin IV which is a contender for best Zeppelin album of all time (though Zep I and II are way up there for me too). The guitar in the intro and in the breaks is apparently double tracked, each with a phaser effect out of phase with each other. With a single guitar I think a flanger gets closer to the sound.. That harp (harmonica) has some overdrive and reverb on it. The harp in When The Levee Breaks also has some reverse echo. Love it when Robert wails on that blues harp. Led Zep were really good at using various effects in a way that integrated with and enhanced the music rather than sounding like a gimmick.

At first, I didn't remember which song this was, but then when that opening riff started, I remembered it. Back in the seventies, the rock stations pretty much played every Led Zeppelin song there was at one time or another, and this 1976 song was definitely among them. I did notice that you could tell it was from a later album because Plant's voice sounded different than in the early years.

"Mothership" is a recent compilation album. The album this song comes from is "Presence", which was released in 1977. It had these odd photos on the cover that looked like they were from 1950's ads, except that each of them included this ominous black monolith that looked a lot like the one in "2001: A Space Odyssey". Great album, with some of their best work on it. (Zeppelin's stuff is best understood in the context of the original albums.)

Sorry - I just had to say - *THIS CHANNEL IS AWESOME!!!* ❤ I enjoy your reviews every day. The MUSIC is just outstanding. Couldn't ask for better! A perfect mix of different genres and styles as well. You highlight the best music available on KZfaq. Led Zeppelin - just picture the young me with a guitar desperately trying to play along with them and mostly failing (well bits of riffs maybe). I don't need to say any more. Amber and Jay - you guys just rock in every way 🙂

I saw LZ live in 1977 and when they played this song I was blown away! In the beginning of the song, every time the guitar riff ended into that deep bass thrum, it was so deep and loud that the whole building vibrated and would shake you all the way to your core. Y'all keep rocking! There is so much good music to enjoy!

Amber, you need to hear Whammer-Jammer by the J. Geils Band. But only if you really like hearing a harp player rockin' and rollin'. Magic Dick will definitely show you how it's done. Find a good live version. Also, anything by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Maybe you've never heard of them, but they played at Woodstock and several musicians you have heard of came out of his band.

This album was released in 2007 and the same year, "Celebration Day", concert and live album were released with Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham on drums. That concert and live album was as close as they could get to the original Led Zeppelin in the 21st century. A piece of history that will likely never happen again.

@@screwyootube1 Got that, but the reaction is to a song off Presence. The fact that it's on a greatest hits album doesn't take away that the album "Zeppelin" made with this song is Presence. John Bonham plays on Nobody's Fault, but was long dead by the release of Mothership.

Again Mr Bonham nails it. Always showing why he was the best The other 3 guys do fairly well too. Lol. JPJ is such a master on the bass , Page dose tasty guitar work & Plant working overtime on the harmonic. I always liked the album Presence.

Countless musicians played in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, then went on to greater success, either solo or joining another band. Eric Clapton & Jack Bruce, who would go on to form Cream, Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood & John McVie, who formed Fleetwood Mac, Mick Taylor, who joined the Rolling Stones, replacing Brian Jones, and Aynsley Dunbar, who joined Frank Zappa's band, and would later have a very prolific career as an in-demand side musician, both for studio work and touring, all of them spent some time with Mayall.

Definitely need to do Kashmir, Live from Knebworth 1979. Its the best version of the song even though Robert Plant gets verses mixed up. His performance on vocals is mind blowing in this song. Of course the band is always musicly sound but Bonhams drums in this version are FIRE! ,especially towards the end. Great drum fills... You will believe Plant is a Golden God after this. And All My Love, which is a love letter Plant wrote for his son who passed away in 1977 by a rare stomach virus while Led Zeppelin were on the road. Very emotional.
