Welcome every one to the Tactical Tavern! My name is Tomas Alas and in this video, we are reviewing the Bastinelli Knives and Doug Marcaida + Funker Tactical Collaboration on the Pika Karambit.
This low-profile knife offers a personal protection tool with every day carry capabilities but does it live up to the hype? In this video, we put it up against the Tactical Tavern Test with 25 possible points based on Price, Funcillity/Design, Dependability, Versatility, and Carry Ability.

I also just found your channel and while I love your attitude and voice and energy, I think we could really really do with some actual tests with tendons/blood. It would be great to see testing on this to see how effective it truly would be on tendons. Regardless, because of your channel I'd love to buy one due to its traditional blade length the point of the karambit is to be unseen, your hand tricks are amazing man

Just a heads up.. the Doug Marcaida website still sells the trainers separately for $48. They are high quality aluminum construction & come wrapped in leather. I don't know of he still sells the live blade/trainer combo packs anymore. But this blade is well worth the added piece of mind security. It's virtually legal everywhere & is capable of doing some serious damage to a would be attacker.

I bought the knockoff version of Amazon for 30 bucks just to make sure I like the design and feel. I love that it’s a smaller size especially with the blade shape, coming from a grappling/wrestling background it’d be less obstructive during CQC but will still cut plenty deep enough to incapacitate an attacker if you use it how the karambit is meant to be used. Only thing I can’t stand is how small the grip is on one hand it’s nice cause it allows you to form a fist like you would without holding it let’s the blade rotate in your palm and the blade turns up towards your knuckles. Definitely like it enough to buy the wrapped pika for more grip purchase, or maybe get some grips made and bolted on to the one I already have.
@tacticaltavern
@tacticaltavern Жыл бұрын
I totally can’t blame you for buying the cheap one first to test the design before getting the real thing! I will say the real pika has a much more comfortable grip than the knock offs I have handled -the wrapped version enhances that even further

@@tacticaltavern N690. Around the 1:20 mark you commented that it was great. Honestly I’d love to see this with a steel that doesn’t have as much edge retention capabilities but is a little better on the corrosion resistance. N690 has pretty good corrosion resistance but if you’re sweating on this thing every day and it’s only a self defense knife (not used for opening packages and stuff) I feel like there’s some options that would make this knife unbelievable. Right off the bat H1 steel comes to mind for low edge retention but unbelievable stainlessness which seems like the main requirements for a karambit. Personally I’d love one in S110V or maybe even LC200N so I can sweat all over the thing and not really worry but H1 would be absolutely perfect and I don’t believe would affect the cost of manufacturing.

Very comfortable as the wrench handle (now a tang) was designed for the palm.....

Incredible knife, TERRIBLE grind. Imagine a woodworking chisel. Held properly, it's a biting 20° angle. Flip it over, it becomes parallel, and just slides over the surface. That means it only cuts in one direction. Slashes to the outside are more like gouges from the curved tip.
