I’m confused how to measure a 4/8,5/8 seam allowance. No one can help.

Yes, this is an issue with sergers. Since you can vary the cutting width this is why there is often no clear way to get a perfect 5/8" seam allowance. In sewing a seam you can to mark the seamline and then make sure your left needle stitches through your marks. Alternatively you can make temporary marks on you machine next to where the fabric edge is cut off. I use scotch tape and pencil for my marks. Hope this helps.

@@MontavillaSewing so the other steps necessary then are to use a sewing machine first then use the serger. I watch videos on how to make a dress using only the serger. I wonder how they do it then? There is no mention of measuring. They pin and start serging. I have yet to learn how and when to change the cutting width.

The Celebrate owner's manual has instructions for it (I have this machine). I'm not near it now, but it's smt like: if you have the stitch width set at "M" and you line the raw fabric edge with the marking that that says "L" you'll get a 5/8 seam allowance. Not sure if you had to line it with the L or R, and I'm not near it now, but that's the gist of it and it is explained in the owner's manual. As boring as it can be to read them, they have a lot of useful info.
