My favorite thing this year is inexorably linked to one of the worst moments in my life. It was the moment when my 4 legged hirsute best friend, hell, my son. A 9 y/o Chihuahua named Smudge ... opened his eyes and started breathing on his own again after the rescue breaths i gave him. When I found him unresponsive, limp and lifeless, not breathing, back on Dec 12th. Seconds feel like hours when the only thing you have that gives you joy in life is laying limp in your hands and not breathing. Knowing if this doesn't work .... You never feel more lonely and alone than at a time like this, and you have no one you can call, if even to just help you through it. It's just you and him, and it might end just being you. Thankfully, that's not the case, and my little buddy is still with me this Christmas.
