This series was hands down THE best thing to hit the screen for me, the actors, the character development, the story line, the backing music, everything was just perfect. Nothing has topped it for me since. Just amazing

I like this after watching the "ultimate dialogue" clip again. Harold would never choose to give up the password to the Machine. And the Machine would never go against his wishes. But with Harold dead, the Machine would still have struck against Samaritan, in order to carry out what it (she!) knew he wanted.

Actually I think it's not 5x01 neither. I remember several times in season 4 harold referred to the machine as she.. I don't remember the episodes but I suppose I can do some digging.

No, I think it is 5x01 because it suprised Root that Harold finally called the Machine "she". I don't Harold really realized how much the machine meant to him until the finale of season 4.

I do believe Dashwood is Harold's last name, my opinion. Is there a bird of that name? I have to go look that up. Found it!! Dashwood is a character in a move in 1995 called Sense and Sensibility. It sound like a very good move. There is dialoge that you can read. Chirp

Sense and Sensibility is a novel first published by Jane Austen in 1811. If you recall, there's a scene in Season 2 where Finch is talking to Nathan, he shows him a copy of the novel along with an engagement ring and tells Nathan about his plans to propose to Grace. Finch is seen giving the novel and the ring to Grace in a park shortly afterward (it's seen through the Machine's perspective, there's no audio).

I do remember but, I did not know that was the novel. I keep saying to my self, if you don't keep an eye on every thing going on, you miss some thing. You have to be just like a computer, and play chess at the same time. Chirp

chirp6470 I'm no computer, I had to look up "dashwood" after watching the episode because I wanted to know if there was any significance. There was another moment like that in Season 4, the episode where Elias and Anthony are kidnapped by Dominic. When Elias tells Dominic the booby-trapped combination to his bomb safe, the numbers correspond with the date Muhammad Ali fought George Foreman (10 30 74). Whenever a show has a combination of numbers or a significant phrase or word, I always like to look it up to see if there's any deeper meaning. Person of Interest has a few moments like that.

Finch says he's going to break his own rules and two episodes later Samaritan is begging for mercy. It wasn't that it was too easy, it's just that Finch is unstoppable.

Plot twist: Samarithan never existed. The Machine faked everything to get Harold to that machine, let him utter admin's password command for her purposes: setting the Machine as SU, perhaps. Now no one knows about Machine, Harold has no reason to suspect anything and she has all the freedom she ever wanted.

Jeffrey Paul nah he was shot point blank, we even saw him fall over when he got shot. I think it would undermine Reese’s sacrifice if he had lived. We could still have shaw though

The password "Dashwood" is a reference to the protagonist of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" and it serves as a parallel between the novel's conflict between sense (logic, propriety, and thoughtfulness) and sensibility (emotion, passion, unthinking action) and Harold's internal conflict between letting the ASI's "live" (sense) or letting Humanity fend for itself (sensibility), opting for the latter in the end. Also, the book is the one that he used to propose to Grace back in the day, which makes it even more meaningful.

here harold takes name 'harold osprey'. doesn't he look like one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oJ-PZq6arJvOqWw.html :) and i don't think his real name had anything to do with birds. but, his first known name was harold wren, and i think his initials might have been HW. statistical guess: Harold Wilkins (according to most common names in Iowa).

No, an alternate version of Samantha Groves without her humanity, courtesy of the Machine's final scenario for Finch. He was being shown that without his own creation, Samaritan would've recruited Mrs. Groves and used her as its pawn.
