I always feel slightly sceptical when publications like Men's Health puts out these videos - like, a lot of it feels it's for show, and not very realistic (just my impression, though!) I really enjoyed the movie, but then again, I love movies with good fight scenes, lol

I agree, all those fancy stuff like chain pushups, etc its more for show so the general population will think "wow he's training hardcore!!" While in reality the basic stuff also does the same thing if not better functionally

Love this. Dr. Mike Isratel said pretty much exactly the same thing. I like both his reviews on celebrity workouts and yours. Sled pushing is good for sled pushing and punching is good for punching. 😂💯

So as per usual these Hollywood trainers are bulking up a workout with unnecessary fancy moves instead of keeping it simple 🤷‍♀️ Thanks Justina love your take on this ❤️

This was great, Justina! I agree with everything you’re saying. You talk so much about functional fitness (which I love) it’s great to see your take both on the fact that he’s an actor as well as aesthetics over function. Great video!! ❤

You are far too kind Justina - these MH workouts are so bad that they have begun to take on the appearance of SNL spoofs. There is also a Jake Paul one where he prepared for an upcoming fight by doing every exercise under the sun, except anything that involved any actual fighting! Also, the promotional pictures I've seen have Jake Gyllenhaal looking ridiculously shredded - more so than most professional MMA fighters (bar those fighting at the lower weights, so of them are quite "fluffy"). Maybe the video was not about exercising to achieve aesthetic goals or get combat ready but to promote that fancy Porteus machine (I'm such a sucker - put me down for one!🤣)

Love the new series, Justina! You were definitely super nice (let's just say I had a puzzled expression while watching some of his moves), and your balanced approach to fitness is just as informative and intelligent as always. Oh, and you 100% deserve to train the elites*, Hollywood actors included, buuut they don't deserve you, so we are keeping you here with us. Sorry. 😎 * you deserve their money, I mean!

Good critique, lots of good info. You were less critical than Dr Mike, lol. People in his comment section didn’t think Jake achieved that body without what they call juice. It does make you wonder.

I kept thinking he should do bag drills and pad work since he's playing a former UFC fighter, more conditioning, but I guess this was more of a strength workout.

I find it odd when these actors’s coaches that some complicated move is preparing them for x or y thing their character does. If someone’s playing a figure skater, they’re going to learn how to figure skate so that they look like they know what they’re doing AND they’re going to practice the stunts with the stunt experts. These things will prepare the actor for skating or wrestling or mountain climbing or whatever not the weird moves the trainer comes ip with.
@RidleyJones
@RidleyJones 3 ай бұрын
Okay this is wildly speculative, but I feel like a small part of why these workouts often look so odd is that they help manage the psychology of actors. They (I think, maybe this is poorly informed on my part) often seem to be sensation-seeking and dramatic. I feel like they will be actually more motivated if the workout is weird and fancy and all over the place, and makes them feel hardcore and like Superman, whereas if something just seems normie and boring, they might disengage and not end up getting the results they need.

The idea of this trainer reviewing elite athlete's and actors' trainers is laughable. I think she just wants to get content, or hear her own voice? Either way, here's my engagement comment!

hollywood trainers are more often than not notoriously bad. watch any of these mens health videos. watch a dr mike video where he critiques celebrities training. you think chris hemsworth got his physique by doing kettlebell swings?

i mean, huh? let’s do a quick check on what drives views. obviously, justina is a smart creator but she’s also a wicked knowledgeable human and shared some incredible perspective in this piece alone. watch some others and i’m sure you’ll start to appreciate her insights and candor. also, any trainer (good or bad) can review anyone they’d like. you can also then choose to view and even … engage!
@chamanthipowell6386
@chamanthipowell6386 3 ай бұрын
Why? Why is someone who trains “elite” actors any better than someone who trains “ordinary”(non-elite 😂) people? At the end of the day any trainer who listens to what their client wants and puts together a good functional realistic programme in keeping with the clients needs is a good trainer. Just because you work with Hollywood stars makes you no better than anyone else. If you watch Dr Mike’s critiques, it probably make you worse because you end up pandering to the ridiculousness that is Hollywood instead of putting together decent routines!
My *honest* opinions as a personal trainer in nyc.
