"The Kiss" hangs on my wall for $40. I had to have my low budget LaserJet replica to feed me emotionally as I crawl off to a job I hate. I absolutely love it.

Excellent. I soak up all I can about Klimt and there was new knowledge here for me, so thank you. I also visit Vienna as often as I can, a fascinating city in many ways. I live in a neighbouring country and a train ride is easy and cheap, no point taking a car to Vienna. There is a copy of Woman in Gold at the Belvedere and the crowds of tourists around it are something else. I'm returning this January.

I was already somewhat familiar with the painting when I saw the movie. I carved out some time to see the painting in person while on a trip to NYC last year. It's stunning and I'm very glad I went.

There's a reason Klimt did so many sketches of his subjects. The point is to get to know them.

Please, consider a documentary on Frank Lloyd Wright and his "wholistic creating Art of Architecture, Interior Design and *Decor* in home, commercial, and museum works. He clearly didn't charge his clients the value of what the received. He inspires me so...

@Beth Bartlett - If you are able to do so, go visit a Wright building. The interiors feel like no other, kind of soaring even if they do not have physically high ceilings (those many do). They just make you feel so good.

After all that she doesn't even get to hang it in her own home. I think that's incredibly sad. I think its wonderful that she is allowing it to be in a museum where everyone can enjoy it, but still...I think I would have hung it in my own home for a while...maybe on the ceiling over my bed.

The lesser known of the two portraits (Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II) sold for $150 mill in 2017. Imagine the money she'd have to spend on upgrading security for her tiny bungalow, just to enjoy it in her home for a few days. A tiny old woman in an old, small house makes for the most boring heist movie ever, because she would have easily been robbed and maybe murdered after having the painting for 15 minutes in her home. She had to fight to get the paintings back, but a huge part of why she won, was the media surrounding the case. And that media made the paintings even more valuable. She would never have been able to enjoy them in her home.

@@notcompletelynormal Quite right. She taught for a great principle - negate evil. And the money she was paid for the painting enabled her to do a lot of good things.

Interesting doc but odd that there's no mention of the fact that many of those mentioned were Jews. It was Jewish money that kept Klimpt going.

Really, to listen to the “experts” opining on the greatness of such an amateurish piece sums up the farcical state of modern art. This piece looks to have been done as a middle school art class project. Every 13yr old class member was able to pitch in and contribute their own little bit. And at the end they all got some kind of participation trophy so nobody had hurt feelings.

Nazis came into her home and stole everything from her family. They put her husband in a concentration camp. Practically all of her family was murdered in a genocide. She tried several times to come to an agreement with the Austrians. She wanted them to stay in Austria and they were straight up awful to her. Dismissing her profound grief and her loss, disputing their guilt in her nightmare and insisting on keeping and displaying her property. I think she wanted acknowledgement and an apology, and when after years and years they wouldn't even hear her out, she got sick of it. They did not deserve to keep those paintings. They deserved nothing. They were rightfully hers, and rightfully hers to do with as she wanted. This idea that she was greedy since she didn't want Nazi-collaborators to keep her stolen family heirlooms after surviving the Holocaust seems like a wild conclusion. Also - she couldn't exactly keep the paintings. They sold for millions and millions. Where would she have put them, where they wouldn't lead to her being robbed immediately? What is wrong with you, that you're this petty about an old lady Holocaust survivor getting back what Nazis stole from her family? It's a feel good story. Who hurt you?

No, she didn’t just want the money. She remained the home and lived the way she did before. She wanted justice.
