I adopted 2 male cockatiels. The woman said they were friends and shouldn't be separated. Upon bringing them home I noticed one was plucking it's feathers, stressed, and his wing was messed up. The other one was healthy. The healthy one was stressing out the other one and making him pluck his feathers. I separated them, gave the healthy one up for adoption and now the stressed cockatiel is growing his feathers back and hasn't been plucking! :)

We had a Cockatiel for around a year...she was hand-bred. My mother was with her when she was suddenly making these clicking sounds in the nose. Not knowing what it was mum was instructed by the vet to place her in a box and take her to him, of which she did. Patch bit her just as she was passing her to the vet and she had to leave her in the box. The vet said that it was fine and he would look at her but at that time Patch had a fit and passed away. The vet wanted to do an Autopsy to find out what happened, but that would've cost alot. After 6 months passing, mum and I went to the pet shop and bought another hand-bred Cockatiel. We named her Patch (2) after our first Patch and she is also as lovely as the first. My mum says that they are all different and do different things and that life moves on. We hope you've bought another bird and have some company. Take care. P.S. We now have three Cockatiels of which are three different breeds and they bring us much joy.

So, Trixie didn't order any cheerios with her meal, because she "didn't want any". Then when Milo's cheerios came, she tried to take some off of his plate. That checks out.

My friend's bird would usually reach for your finger if she hasn't seen you before. She ends up grabbing your finger, lifting it to her beak, and will bite it. My friend says it's her way of tasting you to see if she trusts you.

I really like this. I used to have a female cockatel who I named Babie (that's how I spelled her name on purpose just to be different). What you have shown is very good. It's a good little educational video about cockatiel. As I watched this, I remembered Babie's behaviors. At least she loved me and I loved her. Had to give her away when I moved away from my folks' house. Maybe in the future, I'll be getting a cockatel or two.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for shedding light on why my hatchling plays with its beak! I'm glad it's a good thing and not something to worry about. My cinnamon hatchling (well my 4 month old lol) is very much like Trixie - shy yet curious and very quiet. I'm pretty sure Cinna is a female, but we're going to wait until its tail feathers come in :).
