I have garlic, onions, cabbages, lettuce, spinach, cilantro, Asian greens, collards, turnips and things I cannot remember growing in my front yard. Most of it is along the chain link fence, both inside and outside. Daisies, hollyhock and sunflowers and food on the outside, English peas climbing the chain link fence on both sides. Been working the soil for three years and it’s organically abundant now. Have the stinky swamp water constantly brewing. Peppers and Red Garnet amaranth going in soon. THANK YOU, JIM. That’s just the front garden. Passersby wave at me as if to cheer me on.

One of the big reasons for the growth being so much better in the greenhouse is the reduced intensity of the sunlight due to its being diffused by the plastic. This reduction in light intensity slows the rate at which the light raises the surface temperature of the leaves allowing for longer periods of photosynthesis throughout the day since leaf temperatures above a certain threshold will induce photorespiration. Another overlooked factor is likely the plastic trapping CO2 as it respirates out of the soil allowing for greater absorption by the plant leaves as Leaf temperature and CO2 availability are two of the top limiting factors on photosynthesis.

Keep your tomatoes dry and they resist disease. Tomatoes hate rain. Growing tomatoes in a tunnel is a dream of mine. The rain here in NC destroys them. We got almost 7 inches in April, which is our 2nd driest average month 😭

I truly hope Jim receives all the success he deserves for all the hard work he's putting in. I'm sad to say that my only travels are up and down from north central Florida to West Palm Beach, the Atlantic coast, to visit my daughter and granddaughter. Also, my budget won't let me do too much in the way of donations lately. God bless for much bountiful crops and financial success.

Great update! My 2nd greenhouse I put in January and now is planted with my spring crop is also making a huge difference! In 4 weeks the cucumber plants are 8’ tall and producing cucumbers. Tomato plants have fruit too. With my small greenhouse I struggled when the temperature got hot. I think the roll up sides and scissor doors are the difference. I close the greenhouse’s up at night and open in the morning at this time, might leave open as the nighttime temperature is higher. I have 30% white shade cloth and it perfect, even with some days being in the upper 80’s. I also think keeping the leaves dry helps eliminate diseases. The real test will be successfully growing tomatoes, disease free into the summer here in zone 9b. Seems like Jim needs to put more greenhouses up. I agree they are a game changer, especially during the winter too.

If you guys do any more talking on camera, I would love to hear about theory on the greenhouse plants and maybe some crossover with syntropic theory of needed light amounts. I would also love to hear his thoughts on direct seeding vs soil blocks, a lot of syntropic people out here just love direct sowing, but there is no winter to get ahead of here. The garden looks so good on the edges it looks like landscaping!

Hi guys. I am from Poland and did not catched up what is the story behind ,,soil blocks”. Would you be so kind and explain what does it m 9:50 ean that they are bigger? Bigger than what? I saw your old movie about soil blocks making. As far as I know there were some two kindes of hand machines that allowed to produce soil blocks- just two sizes. The process was a bit complicated for me. There are no tools like that in Poland so I will have to order them abroad. Would you advice to order three sizes? If yes perhaps you know wjere to purchase them? This topic is most interesting for me as since tomorrow I will have my own garden:)

No, you're smart for using a shade cloth in FL, he's accomplishing the same thing with his greenhouse. He's using the greenhouse to get a jump on the season and avoid cold temps but he's also blocking sun with it. That white greenhouse cloth diffuses the sunlight and prevents direct exposure which typically fries tomato and cucumber plants in FL sun. Jim mentions here that his whole life he's only got like 2 or 3 cucumbers because of this but now, with the cucumbers not exposed to direct sun, he's getting a lot more. I also have a shade cloth over my garden but my experience was it was not enough for the cucumbers. Too much sunlight creeps in through the sides, you need full coverage like he has here.
