The stakeholders meeting organized by the ministry of works, to compensate property owners affected by the controversial Lagos- Calabar coastal road project, took a dramatic turn on Wednesday, after the minister of works Dave Umahi accused property owners of playing politics.
The minister also accused the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, who has been quite vocal about the project of inciting the people of the south-east who according to him, are not well informed about the project, against the federal government.
In response, peter obi, in a series of tweets clarified the video in circulation, stating that during his tenure as governor of Anambra state, he made it abundantly clear that all structures obstructing existing roads and lacking approval would be removed, and that his actions were aimed at prioritizing the repair and maintenance of existing infrastructure to safeguard the livelihoods of Nigerians and to ensure the efficient use of resources. He also addressed the comparisons and Umahi’s accusations.
During the question and answer session with journalists, the minister was asked about the approval process of the project by our environmental correspondent, Laila Johnson Salami, which apparently unsettled the minster, as he claimed that he could not understand her question because of her accent.
Meanwhile, users on social media, have pulled up videos of bad roads which are over due for re-construction. A video of the Benin - Auchi Road, as reported on May 1st made rounds on social media.
In Lagos State, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab on Wednesday, revealed that the government has uncovered 86 rooms under the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, where tenants were paying an annual rent of N250,000 thousand Naira.
Wahab posted videos, showing officials of the commission demolishing the rooms which has sparked a debate online, over the high cost of living in Lagos, with many questioning the logic behind paying such a high price, for living under a bridge.

Our loans was paid last by OBJ regime, this administration has been paying our international loan. 2. Since OBJ regime our capital forex trade have not exceed $600 million but this administration recorded over 1 billion dollar trade last month. 3. Before Nigeria was borrowing international loan of 2 trillion and 1 billion to subsidize petrol and dollar, this administration used INTERNAl loan of 300 billion and less than 300 million for petrol and dollar. 4. OBJ 8yrs, Jonathan 6 yrs and Buhari 8yrs NO single refinery they ALL PLACED OUR INCOME SOLELY ON CRUDE OIL. This administration just one year and have bee reviving our refineries. 5. From the past administration form OBJ to Jonathan FG gave 58% on capital projects this administration placing 73% on capital projects. Yes. I agree masses were not feeling the impact and there is still hardship that need to be drastically addressed but without been bias this administration is on the right path. I repeat I did not vote for Tinubu or any APC candidate but I am an intellectual that leave with facts and sincerity.
