Not sure if this has been put up else where in its entirety.
From 1979, "The Complete Guide To Accents of The British Isles" was put on record and we get to hear the legendary Peter Sellers do one of the things he did best! Along with Britian, he explores, to a lesser extent, German, Italian, French and even a couple American accents. All done in good humor and stereotypes, and all done brilliantly. Please enjoy!

I love the way Peter has the "American" miss pronounce ALL British place names- as they very often do!! Met him briefly in 1967 at Chrystal Palace Race track in London. He was there to present winner's cups, and had Britt Eckland with him. A very nice guy..

Yes. He was in a film, ‘ Only Two Can Play’. Perfect, Welsh accent..and I’m Welsh...except that I’ve never, heard anyone say ‘ boyo’.

@@gennyreid3240 I can say to you that it does happen, one of my PE teachers at secondary school was Welsh and he loved throwing in a "boyo" whenever he were taking the piss out of someone who had messed up spectacularly or on purpose. Had I not witnessed it myself I would have thought that it was something that had been invented for your lot lol.

+Fer Abra To me, it is quite the opposit from "spot on". Well, I'm not a native english speaker but I follow english football (Liverpool to be precise) and I'm a careful listener and love it when a scouser shows up on some TV Show. To me John Bishop and Jamie Carragher or Craig Charles are genuine Liverpoolians oozing with scouse. :)

dejffjed Well, I'm not a native english speaker either, but I've been a massive Beatles fan for decades, and I'm a careful listener too. You have to realise 60s scouse does not necessarily sound like 10s of the next century scouse anymore. A lot of water down the bridge. This is a 60s record imitating 60s scouse. The Beatles' scouse. George Harrison to be precise. And it is spot on.

It always throws me that "twat" is with a short, hard A in the British accents I've heard, but with a long, soft A in North America.

I would prefer tp hear Peter Sellers clearly without the annoying music and sound effect. Producers often seem to come from another planet.

The program would have been a few hours long had it been a genuine overview of the complete variety of different UK accents. London alone would have taken forever as there was a far greater degree of regional (as in regions of London) accents then than we have today.

I've heard all of these accents firsthand and I can safely say with utmost certainty (and in good nature of course) that they are all very nearly as absurd as he makes them sound. It's a funny thing though, because in Wales I was approached by a group of girls and they said in that like... really delightful posh accent, "Oh, we love your accent!" And I'm over here sounding like a godawful mix of Danny DeVito and Loretta Lynn, going, "What??? MY accent??? I have an ACCENT?"

Welsh accent not good. The nearest bit of Wales to Liverpool is North Wales where not only do they sound quite different from the stereotype but also don't play rugby to any serious extent. (My Dad was a North Walian though I'm a Londoner).

His South Wales accent is fantastic. It was as good in the film ' Only Two Can Play', too. I've lived here all my life by the way. North Wales accent is different.

He actually could do both of the most common accents (Glaswegian and Edinburgh's) to great effect. I would also not be surprised if Robin's own accent were modelled after Sellers's one; because as far as I am aware Robin was a fan of the Goon show and perhaps witnessed it in one of those or alternatively in one of the many occasions when Sellers showcased a variety of different accents during his television and radio appearances.

the lady that works as maitre d in out restaurant is from Liverpool, and I'd have to say, between hearing hers and the Beatles Liverpudlian only, Sellers stab at it is a a poor one. His Glasgow and Noel Fielding's are strangely identical. And not that good either. I just had a couple of pints with a couple of Glasgow boyos and he didn't sound anything like them.
