The Sony HT-A5000 Atmos soundbar is a 9 driver soundbar with upward firing speakers and built in subwoofer. The soundbar on its own generates convincing Atmos effects and the bass response is phenomenally good coming from such a low profile sound bar!
If budget isn't a concern, this looks like a superb soundbar to get. You are getting very close to the HT-A7000 flagship model performance but saving a couple of hundreds with this. And this supports BOTH Dolby Atmos and DTS:X!

Thanks for another great video on the Sony Soundbars. But after watching this video I went out and bought the Bose 600 which I’m really enjoying & for £499 does a brilliant job with Dolby Atmos & Music.

If you don’t need a lot of deep bass, check out the Bose 900. It’s the best I’ve tested among standalone soundbars. Stereo soundstage is excellent and it produces better phantom sound. It’s a great choice for anyone who wants great sound out of the box.

Thanks for another instructive video Peter. Just received delivery of the SONY HT-A7000, SA-RS5 rears & SA-SW5 sub. to partner our XR55X94J TV. I largely agree with your assessment that the HT-A5000 offers better value for money or ‘sound per pound’. But was able to take advantage of SONY’s then current bundle deal, only cost me around £250- more for SONY’s flagship soundbar & shaved £300- off the sub. AND £300- off the rear surrounds. No brainier…if you’re in a position to flash the cash, of course(?) Interested to know whether the SONOS Arc, SONY HT-A7000 & HT-A5000 soundbars are capable of replaying hi-res music(AIFF, FLAC, WAV or DSD) files when hooked up to a network server/streamer? Also appreciate some recommendations for speaker stands suitable for the SA-RS5’s? Keep up the great work bro. Regards. Bob

The A9 does a better job at surrounds because of the fact that it has 2 speakers at the rear!

I’m so glad I found this video. I’m sold on the HT 5000, it MAYBE a little more than I need. but my living room is a 15’x19’ with fairly high ceilings. I just bought the Sony XR X90L Bravia TV bout a month ago. My only worry is the HT 5000 blocking my tv sensor. what do u think? 🤔

You can adjust the height of the tv stands. Sony has a low profile setting and a sound bar setting. I had to raise my tv for this same reason.

Without considerations for the surrounds, I think the arc does a better job. But if you are out for bass and don't want to get the Subs, then the Sony A5000 actually does a DAMN good job!

@Peter Pee Ty for all you do.. HT-A9 or ht7000 or ht5000 full packages sub and rears Money aside ..Best Sound? i dont listen to music much. But sports, TV and movies need to sound superb..i dont have in my area way to hear all i did hear bar/sub of 7000 with sw5 and 5000 with sw3 i dont know if they had bad setup or settings but 7000 was meh and 5000 sounded Better..Your opion in 17x17x8' ceiling apartment..Whats the wow factor ? money aside..tyna

Bass wise.... without the sub, the A5000 and A7000 does a really good job. It's a simple one bar setup!

Hi Peter, love your review on this ... wondering what you will recommend considering the price on Sony during this xmas period HT 5000 + SW5 + RS5 / RS3 // Price at courts is about 2498 SGD against Sono Arcs + Sub 3 Gen Subwoofer + One SL is about 3756 SGD went to multiple Sony stores to try and listen but they dont have the set up nor the "room environment" .... wondering if you're able to recommend :) appreciate your feedback

What is the sound quality? Does the A5000 sound too bright, neutral or warm ? With subwoofers and surrounds the A5000 comes to $2400.

It sounds warm. I got the A5000 at a steal BNIB on carousell. I would have otherwise gone for a A3000. Sony does fantastic engineering. Room filling sound for a 1998 5 room HDB living room. Very very very happy with it.
