Pete... I'm almost an engine builder thanks to you. question... im installing heads on an lt1 95' using gm 10105117 .028 gasket. I notice that the upper part of the gasket has one large triangular shape passage instead of a squarish divided passage... This triangle shape covers the large water passage AND the smaller square opening that goes into the rocker arm bay.... many ppl use these gaskets but that large opening is worrisome the original has a divided partition between the large passage and the open space. Whats up with that????

wouldn't it be a good idea to install the heads together alternating heads while working the torque steps. Reasoning being the torque from the bolts slightly warps the block.?

Edelbrock E-Street heads say toque to 65 foot lbs. would it matter? I just built my 1986 Corvette engine with the e-street heads and I’m almost at the 500 break in mile mark and the #8 intake valve spring broke into 4 sections, and I noticed that the valve seal was not all the way down on the guide so I looked at the rest of the seals and half of them are not seated . Question. What would cause my spring to explode into 4 sections and the inner spring to break into 3 sections. Need help cause I have to be at the Turkey rod run in Daytona in two weeks and I’m driving it down there from Jacksonville Florida.
@PetesGarage

The valve seal had nothing to do with it, unless they were positive lock seals. A spring will break if it's crooked, or not right for the cam.

I installed a new set of Edelbrock Performer heads on my rebuilt 350 and it makes LESS power than the old cast iron heads , it has roller rockers. The compression with the old heads was 145 psi in each cylinder and then 165 psi with the Edelbrocks . Runs smooth idles good just LESS power . I am running an Edelbrock 600 CFM carb unchanged . I do need to get the correct push rod length could this be the problem ?. Could you give me some advice ? Thank you !

ironhorse127 I noticed that too. Especially under the bolt head this is important because the friction there will eat a lot of your torque.

Not a big fan of Edelbrock heads. Never use them out of the box. Valve guides can be out of round among other as built issues. Spend the extra money for a set of AFR or Brodix, ya I know hard to justify for street use. Don't shoot the messenger.

71Vegaman Lol, guess you haven't heard of AFR's valve run-out issues?

Don't matter who makes the head, you should always check someone else's work. Like mom always said, you want something done right do it yourself. Js.
