The 2 greatest drivers to have lived. Between these 2 305 wins 10 cup championships. My hero from childhood the King Richard Petty. I was not quiet 5years old when I was at my first Daytona 500 in 1964. Richard won that one. But David Pearson the silver fox was a damn good driver. I dont care what anyone says these 2 men were the greatest ever drivers in the nascar history. Oh how I wish I could go back in time to see them 2 race against each other again. Long live the King and the utmost respect for the silver fox

I was there. I remember it like yesterday. 12 years old and we were huge Wood Brothers and Pearson fans. Being from Virginia they were our boys.

David Pearson didn't race full-time in NASCAR., Had he done so, he likely would've been the race wins leader. BTW, Richard Petty often raced 2-4 races per week.

Even Petty admitted he thought he cleared Pearson. But misjudged it by a few inches. Got a little bit too close. Pearson popped the clutch and revved up his engine as much as he could to keep the car from dying. While Pearson spun, he hit another car and it straightened him up and that's how he was able to pass Petty. And Petty, while he was spinning and crashing he stopped close to 20 yards short, 50 feet short. One of several finishes where Petty and Pearson finished 1 and 2.

Indicative of the 70s...lol. That moment summed up 70s sports, and obviously motor sports. David Pearson is severely underrated.
