I think everybody seems to forget that Felix actually did graphic design years a go. So he already has an eye for shapes, composition and colour usage. That experience definitely shows.

I remember his photoshop meme videos. Having some graphic design knowledge does translate to drawing sure but I also remember his photoshop skills were pretty limited to thumbnail designs and making meme edits of photos. I mean I work in photoshop to create product designs for shops and restaurants but I can't draw at all sadly 😂

@@hanat9116yeah true. I didn’t mean that it directly translates or anything. More that he propably already had a keen eye for design. Which does help for sure. In seeing what looks good or not, etc.

had a crisis of "wait he can do that in 100 days and I'm not at that level when I've been drawing for years?"....but then your "stop it" came at the right time. I'm not a professional, I'm just someone who enjoys drawing, maybe today even I'll pick up a pencil. Not everything needs to be monetized to enjoy it. That's the trap I fell into with art.

You shouldn't forget that pewdiepie is one of the greatest Artist of all time. Skills like spatial forms, lighting or color theory are the same, or at least similar for film and picture. More over he has lots of photoshop practise. He manly needs to develop the mechanical (pencil) skills.

You gotta remember hes copying though. So what he's really learning is how to copy drawings accurately because everything else is laid our for him like the shapes and the stylization, proportions and everything. The real challenge would be to make an original piece of art with your own references. Referencing other people's art and copying it will always inflate your own skill, but it's good for learning

Seeing this makes me actually wanna commit to art for once. I’ve always liked the idea of being really good at art but I’ve never been able to commit because I’ve never drawn something that I’ve actually liked enough to keep going. I always put myself down for not being perfect on my first go and this is making me motivated to just do 30 days like pewdiepie and just see where it takes me. Perhaps afterwards I’ll do 100 and perhaps more. Wish me luck Edit: day 4 was today and I haven’t been able to put down my pencil. I’m so incredibly happy that I am not only sticking to it but having fun at the same time. I am also learning to live with the imperfections that come with learning to draw, and I am accepting that improvement comes time. More updates to come, and thank you wall for being so supportive, I wish you all the best. Edit 2: its been a while and what I would call the honeymoon phase of my art has worn off. I have hit a rough patch because while I am improving I am having trouble thinking of things to draw. Large amounts of art block and general unmotivation make it very hard to draw each day. I'm trying to go on and hoping that after getting through this phase it will clear the water and drawing will be fun and natural again. Wish me luck I definetly need it.

One of my favorite artists defined talent as , “when you like doing something, so you keep doing it”. Whether or not you think that’s “talent”, I think that applies to Pewdiepie and every passionate artist.
@JPdraws_
@JPdraws_ 4 ай бұрын
Ehh I’d say that description is for passion not talent. I say talent is basically if something comes easier to you. Example is people say I’m talented in art because I progressed fast in my art as apposed to others.
@shutupanddoasitellyou
@shutupanddoasitellyou 4 ай бұрын
Don't mean to rant but that's just a cherry picked definition, that I feel like someone who gets sensitive really easily would say to themselves as an excuse not to feel bad. I'd more-so agree with JPdraw's definition. Talent is just a simple heads-up against the average person. Everyone's on the race track, but people start at difference places, and those who start further ahead in the track are what I'd call talented. And you can try to ascertain all sorts of causes for it from genetics to experience, but there are many micro causes that add it all up; it's pointless to try and simplify it to a few. When you do something and keep doing it, you're just progressing in the skill same as everyone else. There are many people that are more consistent than those with talent, and so despite not having a headstart; the time they put into it makes up for the result. They get to the point eventually. That's something we all should strive for, instead of shouting it isn't fair that others get starting benefits. Most times this works out anyway, and why "hardwork" is such a strong advocate. That said, it's still possible for those talented to keep consistently running through the race as well. If you draw for 100 days 24/7, and he also draws for 100 days 24/7, he's still going to be ahead. That's just the reality.
@StephenBoothUK

You like doing something because it comes easy to you and you can see improvement because you have talent. Talent is aptitude, it’s the talented person will get more improvement from a given amount of practice than an average person. Then we get into a positive feedback loop; it’s easier and you get rewarded (praise, extra attention &c) so you do more and see more improvement.

I have seen a lot of people (on tiktok, his video etc) say that well he has time to draw. He is rich so he can afford lessons, and he has time etc. He is very busy, and he is also a father with other obligations. He is being very transparent with how his process was in the video, so it is not anything different from what your average person could do. He has a graphics design degree, which probably helped, and his time editing thumbnails/videos has probably given him an eye for how colors work. These things doesn't lessen the fact of what he accomplished. I think he should be very proud, and is a great example that anyone can do it if they set aside 10 minutes every day. Find the references/style you want to use, and just get drawing.

This ressonates so much to me and a lot of artist as I've been reading the comments. I recently went through such a breakdown, emotionally and mentally. I've drawed forever and even when I started to post things on the internet, the internet was still a fun place, I think, but the last few years it has drained me so much, the pressure of productivity and algorhitm and all that, my anxiety couldn't keep up, so I stagnated for MONTHS and it felt awful, because I wanted to learn things, but studying was just making it worse. Little by little I've been going back to it, and surely seeing PewDiePie, who I've been following for at least a decade, going on this journey, definitely got me feelings lol Thank you for your words and excitement over this! "Taking your time to draw what's fun to you" is something I had to learn a bad way, but I'm glad I'm here now.

It's crazy how quickly one can improve when you do it a little bit every day and stick with it. I started taking drawing "seriously" around September 2016. I saw a super fast time-lapse video process of one of Kuvshinov's pieces, and that prompted me to download the video and watch it frame by frame to study his process and layer effects and apply that to one of my drawings. After that, I drew almost daily (sometimes once a week) for 2 years. I eventually started doing commissions after posting on Artstation. :)

I've been trying to push myself back into learning how to draw properly. I used to enjoy it a lot when I was a kid - and I was pretty decent for my age. It's a struggle - to maintain the discipline, and consistency required to just have that natural progression. It's a struggle to know what I should be studying, whether I should be studying or simply just practicing. It's a struggle to even remember to draw. A big issue for me, I think, is that I'm not sure what i want to draw, nor how I can directly improve. I've spent too much time playing video games, where the path forward is always clear cut, where progress is measured out and quantified, and your goal is always easy to envision. Anyway, thanks for the video Sam. While this was a pretty depressing cry for attention, ultimately, I do want to draw. In general. I want to be able to put pen pencil to paper and be proud of what I've made. I want to create something for the pleasure of creating it. I DO want to draw. Back to the grind. Thanks for the reminder to keep up with my daily routine.

I have improved, but I have so many issues with straight lines and connecting them. I predominantly write in cursive and I wonder if this translates to my drawing??? Lines and making boxes, pyramids or things with lots of angles is SO hard for me. But my circles and ovals have gotten better so much faster than those.

This might genuinely make me cry. I just gave a bunch of entrance exams to get into college for animation and I have been burnt out. I keep noting new ideas and new designs, but I stay away from drawing. The last time I tried to draw left me feeling even worse because of how much I had deteriorated, and seeing someone get better in just a few days of practice hurt me and inspired me at the same time. I knew the biggest problem I had was not letting myself express my ideas even during the exams. I wasn't having FUN. They really just wanted what I could offer but I restricted myself to give answers that I thought they wanted. It's going to take a while to pick up my pencil again and feel confident about it, but I hope I can do it soon. I have so many ideas that I want to put down.

I've been learning how to draw for over a year now, I've found it relaxing and therapeutic to draw out how I feel/felt at that moment though as of recently I've kinda put it off since i went to college. I will probably get back at it at my last year since I'd have more free time by then and I'd probably be rusty again... that's the fun of it for me I guess, the feeling you get when you know you improved on something you were bad at is really amazing! I hope everyone here will have a wonderful day!!❤❤

Just draw anything that you enjoy drawing and maybe once in a while, try drawing faces or maybe do art challenges for yourself. Other than that, make sure you're having fun along the way and try not to be harsh on yourself.

"Draw what you love and make it fun" is probably the best advice. I was trying to draw for a while, barely making progress. I was getting frustrated at the pace i was improving. One day i just decided, im just going to draw portraits of kpop idols. I made so much progress after that. It became fun and i was enjoying myself. I have about 20-30 minutes a day to practice if im lucky, but the progress is apparent, and i dont feel like im wasting my free time because im loving what im doing.

i saw this comment in another vids One insight on his coloring, he studied graphic design for a couple years and he used to participate in photoshop contests iirc, he is very good with it so i'm sure that's where he was instantly good and understood shade and lighting. Some people do have a natural instinct and understanding from consuming a lot of media too, but pewds has a little bit of background at stuff like coloring

So for someone who needs a bit of hand holding... are there resources or guides I could follow? I have a few sketchpads filled with drawabox exercises but I have no idea how to apply any of that or how to move on. I tried copying everything from TACO's books but its just not sticking... I feel like I need to start from 0 but I have no idea where or how to start. I feel like I need structured exercises as sometimes I just dont know what to practice. Any help would be appreciated.

It is so true: you need to enjoy art to find your style and improve. And he's doing just that. I experienced it first hand, because I was a child of an artist, and showed interest, that when people try to push you to monetize it, it becomes a chore, a burden and you will never be good enough. I was pushed to the same school my mom went to, pushed to be an artists and that killed the joy. After a few years of hiatus I started up again with the sole purpose of creating for myself. I still have that feeling of "make it perfect" so now I'm practicing having just sketches.

This is so amazing for him ;w; I bet this gives so much encouragement to many new artist! I wish I know how do people draw everyday? Every other day even? 2 times a week?? Idk, maybe having support makes so much difference, I'm unsure, but I love art. I love drawing. I draw for a couple days then watch the weeks fly by, telling myself every day almost every hour "I want to draw" or "I should be drawing" but I just... don't (or can't because I'm at work). I veg out and suddenly it's 3 weeks later. If not the time issues, it's like 2 steps forward 5 steps back. I get going and make progress, learning and feelings like "I've finally got this!", but then suddenly the next day it's like I forgot EVERYTHING and can't draw things I'm good and comfortable at. Over and over and over again endlessly. Plus, having little to no support is disheartening. I know others liking my art shouldn't matter, but sadly it does. xD I've been stuck in this loop for 10 years, long fallen behined everyone I started with, and for the most part have given up. That being said, I'm so happy for people who can progress and succeed in these battles they fight. I hope he keeps going and makes wonderful things having fun doing it.

You are me, except I draw too much and get into ruts. The best advice I can give you is try different medium to unclog your braing, like ink or sculpting every few months, have some art supplies where you see them, and doing actual studies, and then keeping the pictures you made for future reference instead of the actual references.
@abinnohr6497

I'd love to do traditional mediums but my eyes restrict me. I stick to digital because I can zoom in where needed for details and draw for longer before my eyes turn blurry for the rest of the day. Digitally I can draw for hours even if I don't get much done, but traditionally I can draw for a max of 30 minutes before the blurriness begins. Idk why this happens but I'm seeking eye care soon. I love traditional sketching and the idea of paints, but the details are painful. I do also write, so when I get too frustrated with drawing I turn to writing. ADHD runs in my family but I'm currently unmedicated. I've been told by fellow ADHDers that their lives changed when they got medicated. I do keep all of my old stuff, so maybe I should look back on them more often. Thank you for taking the time to respond ^^@@PLKinka

Man I’m so proud of Felix. He’s brought me so much happiness and still does. So it makes me happy to see him doing something he genuinely enjoys. and as someone also studying art, it makes me even prouder to see his progress! I also wanted to mention this to people that are feeling down at his progress. you have to keep in mind, Felix is basically retired. He has TONS of time to practice. It’s unfair to compare yourself to him really. But also..some people just learn and retain information better than others. That’s just a fact. so, please don’t be discouraged. Just keep drawing if it makes you happy. ❤

I think the main things that are not talked about and have hand in making his (pretty simple) drawings look good that fast are two things you might not have if you are struggling: confidence (it makes incredible difference) and being an enterntainer (thinking about what will look cool, not just sitting and drawing absent-mindely). The rest is good feedback, and working towards a goal. And also all of the grown-ups I've taught learned a lot faster than kids, but it might have been my bubble. My husband was able to grasp in two hours what took me months back in middle school. I was self-taught from deviantArt back then, and he had a teacher in me, but still. I was really serious back then, while he was just humouring me. I strongly believe that just drawing everyday can do more bad than good, esp if you do not know what you're doing, just like any other form of exercise, and I'm afraid people will get the wrong lesson out of this story. And end up burned out with their mistakes deepened to muscle memory, possibly with lowered self esteem. Why? I've done it multiple times myself, because I'm addicted to creating. It took years of drawing and about 16 semesters of formal art education (and one mental hospital visit) before I've gotten a system that doesn't make it worse for me.
