This means there's no deal. Dunne isn't just some random guy on the PGAT board. He's THE guy who reached out to Yasir originally. He did this on his own. He wasn't just "asked to negotiate". He's the one who came up with the agreement. It was HIS agreement. I've read some of his statements to Congress. When asked why they didn't look for outside investments, Dunne said that this wouldn't stop Saudi PIF from poaching the best players. Monahan wanted the deal (at least publicly). So did most, if not all, of the independent board members. From what I can gather, the following is what happened. Originally, there were 5 independent directors and 4 player directors on the PGAT board. So Dunne and the other independent directors seem to have made a tentative agreement behind the player directors' back. This is why all the players were taken aback when the news came out. I don't think Monahan was in on this. It's possible he opposed it from the start but was forced to announce it. And going behind the player's back is likely why there's now a clause in any PIF agreement that no deal can happen without the player directors knowing about it. This is speculation, but I think Monahan then called Tiger Woods after the deal was announced and says "Hey, we have a problem. The independent directors want to throw in the towel and basically sell PGAT to PIF." Tiger Woods, who has NEVER wanted to be on any board in his life, now joins the PGAT board. But before he comes on, they add another player director. They're now 5 independent directors and 6 player directors. PGA Enterprises board is created. They have 4 SSG members on the board. Monahan is made CEO and is added to the board. They then add him to the PGAT board as well. All 6 players members are added to PGAE board. They make Tiger Woods vice chairman. EVERYONE on the PGAE board are ALL no votes to the deal BTW. They then get an independent director to flip his vote by making his chairman of PGAE, Joe Gorder. They then add a 7th player director (a liason) to both boards (Ogilvie). And they kick out the PGA of America Director, John Lindert. He's now relegated to PGAT's champion division board. Interesting that now, PGA of A is giving exemptions to LIV golfers in the upcoming PGA Championship. I personally don't think there's a single person on the PGAE board that supports any kind of deal with Saudi PIF. And I think this is why Dunne left. With no players voting yes and the players now outnumbering the independent directors, and Monahan now on the PGAT board, and Joe Gorder's vote flipped, I think there's ZERO chance of a deal going through anymore. It used to be 5 vs. 4 (maybe even 6 vs 3). Now, it's at best 4 vs. 8 (and only a maximum of 3 independent director for the agreement). Now that Dunne is gone, there'd only be 1 or 2 supporting the agreement and they will flip to no if they stay. Likely, there was an understanding they could stay if Dunne left. It's over.

Ya know all this talk about LIV players and some others losing their legacy because they went over to LIV and the best ever response to this, to me, was given by Anthony Kim..he said..the only legacy he cares about is to his family not the PGA, LIV or anybody else...perhaps the players on the PGA, DP, ASIAN TOUR, fans and none players should worry more about that...js

IMO from day one the PGA believes the longer they can hang on and the longer the LIV guys go without ranking points the stronger their position becomes. I really think there is a belief that they can still win and that LIV will fold. The so called agreement is just a stalling tactic and they are certainly not ready to deal yet. There is no real incentive to deal its only the fans who are wanting the deal. Players on both side have never been paid better. If we were in a situation where the players were not being paid we would have an agreement very quickly I think.

Did Rory wait to sign his LIV contract until after he filed for divorce? we will find out

Ever try to open a stubborn ketchup bottle, by the time the third person attempts it, it amazingly opens. We are on the second try of the agreement. As I see it, the players are asking for a fresh look at how this plays out and not get screwed by the suits. I wish it was about preserving the sport, legacy, and the proud tradition, but, alas, it comes down to the money and who gets it.

Sounds like Dunne doesn't think the PGA tour players on the board want a deal. Not a good outcome for golf fans if that is the case. Hopefully the PGA Championship this weeks shows why bringing the best talent together makes for more interesting competitions.

All deals are off with PIF once SSG became involved. LIV have stated their chase for recognition by OWGR is over and they will continue along their own way...... Now everyone from PGAT and SSG have gone into a tail spin.

Its all just optics, unless the PGA can match the sign in bonus money LIV offers stars, they will never be able to keep elite talent long term. From the perspective of the market landscape, LIV has put a price on talent and set the bar for it. If elite talent is worth high six figures, then the player, just like any professional league, NFL, NBA or MLB, will sign the highest contract. The PGAT is just hanging on to the status that they are the standard of Golf but that is only true to the audience that is aging out. The new audience is a different selling point that they have to adapt or figure out. Unless they can market the PGA as the modern standard for pro-golf, they will just be known as the OG tour.

*Boys, and I specifically refer to boys mindset in this context, you are approaching this matter incorrectly. Let me speak the truth, LIV is currently achieving significant success. Let's assume that an unimaginable amount is allocated to Scottie Scottie Scheffler, next year in a transaction that costs less than 2 billion to acquire the entire package associated with PGA and its current NEEDED subsidiary support. Comparatively, a single team in the NFL has an average price of 4 billion. Therefore, LIV can secure the entire deal for the price of just one NFL team. Laughing my a** off, boys!*

To me it's simple the PGA tour board do not care about Golf anywhere else but within their own bubble. Not the PIF, not the DP World Tour, not the Asian area of Golf, just the USA.

LIV can't take the money and then just be welcomed back...........totally unfair as PGA players were threatened if they left. LIV money would have to pay, on a pro rata basis, all the way down through the eligible members of the PGA tour. Then, you could do something.
